Need some advice

Do people consider the non gt's and cobra SN95 classics? Does it sometimes seem like mustangs turned into cobra's or gt's dont get the same respect because the VIN says other wise? see i take pride in what i own and ive had my eye on these sn95's for a while...staying up very late on what can be done with them...researching and all. the thing is my girlfriend has a 1997 (LX i guess) converitable 3.8L V6 that she doesnt want anymore. her dad is willing to sell it to me for a grand. but wanted to know if its worth fixing and turn into something else. since its been in a small fender bender...with a fence lol. i learned what it needs for engine and tranny swaps though. ive driven this car before and liked it alot but becuse its not an authentic cobra or GT will it not be consider a classic sometime in the near future....hard to explain myself but hope others can understand were im coming from with this possible project...let me know of other threads or articles of this thought could help me on my decision. :TY: guys very much :coolsmiley:

is something wrong with the 3.8. a grand for a vert doesn't sound to bad as long as it's not beat up too bad. leave the 6 in it till it's worn out and work on the outside, then when the six is toast then do the v8 swap. classics are the 64's- 73's to me, the dmv classifies classics as 20-25 years old or older i think. welcome to the hobby

No matter what you change to it, It wont be an authentic Cobra or Saleen, remember those cars are special and only certain numbers were produced if am not wrong thats why i guess they dont get the same respect as you said.
And it might be a classic in fifty years from now lol, i dont know but i ve seen auctions of classic cars such as corvettes 60s, mustangs, etc and they lose a lot of value because their transmission and motors, and all that are not matching numbers.

But if you want to turn it in to a cobra i think it ll be interesting :happydrunks:i mean i'd do it, make your own but always keep it real

It probably won't be worth that much, stock 6'er, or a clone. Just do waht you want to with it, make it your own, and have some fun with it and don't worry about its potential value 20 years from now... because for all we know, the world could blow up in a couple years.

ya dont worry about the value, and dont expect to sell it, you wont make much of it back, but fox body guys convert 4 cylinder car to 8s all the time... And to me if you want to make a clone, do it right and make the car as fast as or better than what your cloning. Just dont try and throw cobra tags on a v-6 or stock gt, those are the cars that dont deserve respect. But im sure some other people would disagree... as far as the swap, go for it, but as you probably know its gonna be alot of work, but for getting the car for a grand sounds like a sweet deal!!! i like the feedback all good stuff :thumb: . No i will not but a bunch of cobra or gt tags on a V6 lol. i was thinking just working on the outside till the V6 craps out on me then think about putting the V8 5.0L or a V8 4.6L which ever makes power more reliable and maybe at a little lower price then the other(still learning on the enigne blocks). Ok if u guys dont mind may i have your opinion on my future mustang...- Roush stage 2 body kit all around
- Saleen S-281 wing
- Saleen light bar
- SVO side skirts or the Saleen side skirts
- 18x10 Chrome Saleen Rims or 18x9 Chrome Roush Rims
- Saleen Mustang 3 piece Aluminum Pedal Set
- Swap in a 5.0L
- top it off with a stage 3 motorsports decal on the windshelid...since i dont want people to think its a fake or orginal

those mods sound pretty good. i would leave off the windshield decal, and strip off all badging. i'm also more of a pushrod person (but then again i'm old). BTW the pedal set is good for about 10 hp. start doing you research on the engine and tranny swap

lol 10 hp ypu mean 25 hp to be exact lol. no i just think it gives it a retro type look inside but thinking twice about it. as far as badging goes i would just stick to things that say ford mustang and what not....i'd saty away from GT or Cobra badging. Hell yea i am considereing a pushrod engine swap v8 swap. old? more like classic. any more opinions?

Wise words from a 16 year old. Personally, I share the same feelings. It doesn't matter what shape it's in when you buy it, it depends on what YOU want out of it and what YOU'RE willing to put out to get what you're looking for. Fact of the matter is, whether you put a stock V8 in it and cruise it, or a built V8 with forced induction and a Saleen body kit, it's what you wanted. The performance car market is not exactly something to look into getting a huge return out of. Keeping in mind, modifications technically mean ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NOTHING in resale, I would build a car that you plan on keeping long term and wrench on it for years to come. A nicely done Mustang that's been stripped and completely restored will obviously hold it's resale value for someone who's in the market for that kind of purchase. What kills me is some of the people locally who throw $500 worth of engine mods on a 150,000 mile car that's worth no more than a grand and they're advertising it for $5k. If I had an empty garage and ran into your deal, as long as the frame is straight and there isn't any extensive rust or damage to the car, it's probably worth a grand as a roller to do with it what you choose!

When these cars are worth something it will be more so for the Cobra's and rare models. The GT's were mass produced and dont have build numbers.

Oh and for the record, on non Cobra Mustangs Cobra bumpers are fine, Cobra hoods are fine, Cobra wings are fine. Putting Cobra badges on anything but a Cobra makes you a poser no matter if you pass it off as a Cobra or not. If your car did not come w/ a build sheet and was limited produced then it does not deserve to wear the badges of one that does. Just my opinion I have strong feelings as far as that topic goes.

They are all classics once they hit the age mark to become classics 20 or 25 years I believe. There are a fair share of "Rare" SN95's that will always be worth quite a bit

lol, that makes all SN95s non classics per your definition. Also I'm not talking classic like a certain age, I'm talking classic like highly sought after cars like a lot of the cars from the muscle car era.

haha I know what you mean I was just giving you crap but there are lots of sought after SN95's. The 95 Cobra R's for example, there is also 1 Red Prototype Cobra R that has disappeared, Im sure its locked away some where in a climate controlled garage. There are also the speciality Mustangs like the Super Stallion and the Boss built by John Coliti. There are also some very rare 94/95 Cobra's with low production numbers due to interior/color options.
