Well had a little issue with some hesitation and bucking (rpms would drop maybe 400) but it went away. Then today driving on the highway, the rpm guage went nuts bouncing all around, every gear when i hit the gas loud bang and backfires, eventually the car shut off on the highway and i was able to coast to a safe spot in order to get the car home on a rollback. The car will crank and battery is good but no start. Never had an issue like this and when i tell my mustang buddies around me they dont have a clue. My only idea is the fuel pump but i can hear it prime or the control module on the passenger fender went out. anyone else has this issue?

how old is the distributor? (it controls the fuel pump and ignition)
