Hey i recently sold my S-trim i was tried of it and just wanted something different. So now i got a few bucks to spend but i have no clue what direction i want to go with the car now. I got a rebuilt 302 with forged probe srp pistons in it. The GT40s are coming off, so pretty much i got a short block with good pistons. Should i sell it and go 351 or do HCI and spray it or turbo? I already have a plate kit good for a 150 shot. I like the idea of turbo but i know that its dealing with boost and i was tried of that before. Than i like a 351 idea cause its unique and makes alot of power just seems like to much to change. And i know alot of people make good power with a strong HCI setup! Any ideas or thoughts? thanks

I just dont like the idea of have to fight exhaust and switching so much stuff over... what would a 347 or 331 on a 125 or 150 shot put down vs. a 351 with the same spray?

Stick H/C/I on your good shortblock and spray it.

Keep it simple.

I'd probably do AFR 185s, a Systemax II intake, and an Ed Curtis cam.

Both Trick Flow and AFR's are great heads, cant go wrong w/ either one. If you go w/ Trickflow heads then get the Tirckflow intake b/c they are matched to each other. The best over all cam is a custom cam but they are $300+ Good off the shelf cames are Steeda #19, Trick Flow Stage 1, Anderson Motorsport has great cams.

Or you can make it real simple and just get the Trickflow top end kit

Either a pieced together H/C/I Set up or a pre assembled kit like the Trickflow will net you close to 300 at the wheels. Its not that the pre assembled kit is better then putting together a H/C/I set up its just that everything you need comes in the kit and at a really good price.

okay lets say i do a 347 and throw a set of afr 185s with a system max and a custom grind cam in it what hp to the wheels will i see? i am wanting 400ish to the wheels, i know thats high so i would be happy with 380 and than spray a 150 shot to get it around or over the 500 area...how does that sound?

You may see 305-310 with the 347, may be higher all depends really. You wont get 380-400 at the wheels w/ a H/C/I 302 based engine w/ out serious extensive work. If you want 400 at the wheels N/A you would need a 408+ and then you have to step up to a 351 block.

I have a 351W w/ H/C/I , Shorty headers w/ cats on the X pipe and I put down 333 RWHP 338 RWTQ just to give you an idea. Mine has more in it due to the cats and if I had long tubes but I'm just giving you a reference.

I disagree. If my 347 only makes a lil over 300 to the wheels ill sell it for a dollar.

Also 347>351. Much lighter rotating assembly. I believe afr 185's are too small. Id go TW. 170 before i go afr 185's. TW FAC 190's get my vote tho

Trying to speculate about how much rwhp a combo will make on a dyno is stupid.

Build a well-matched combination based on your goals and budget, and don't try to e-race a dyno.

Just to give you an idea...my buddy Ryan just made 389rwhp/384 rwtq on a mustang dyno.

He has a 10.5:1 347 with Fully Ported Edelbrock RPM heads, Edelbrock intake, and a Custom solid cam.

Numbers don't mean anything though.

Not exactly. A 347 is the stroke limit of a 302 block, a 351 can be stroked well beyond 400 Cubic Inchs. The power potential of the 351 block far exceeds the max limit of the 302 being the 347

I am not trying to e-race a dyno or anything like that, i am looking for a good H/C/I setup to reach a power level...My S-trim put down 7.80s in the 1/8 with 400rwhp i am wanting to be in that same area all motor thats it! My budget is whatever i dont mind dropping 2 grand on the H/C/I i just want to know a good setup to get me where i want to me on motor, even if i got to drop a thousand to get me to a 347 than do H/C/I!....My goal is high 7s on motor in the 1/8th and 7 flats on the spray!
