New member here with my first mustang, dont know much about it but ready to learn. I picked this up yesterday for $1500. Its a 94 GT 5 speed. Its kinda rough all over but i think it will be really fun when its up to snuff.
Was wondering if anyone has any input on the engine by the pics? I see an msd ignition cap but not sure whats oem and what if anything has been changed. Starting from step one here, hoping just to make a fun weekend cruiser.
thanks

Nice price! I don't know 5.0 cars, but see that the prior owner took off the front strut tower brace. He left the bolts. You might have a different intake that was taller than stock so it wouldn't fit, or the guy was just too lazy to put it back.

Yes you have an Explorer or equivalent intake...see the bolt on elbow on the intake?....that can be good...MSD Cap & newer plug wires...the actual Distributor can still be OEM Ford which is VERY good! MM & Steeda & possibly Kenny Brown make a strut tower brace that fits....others too......but everything else looks stock....I like your rims just pick up some center caps whenever...

Congrats on getting your first Mustang! I love my 94, but we have the 2 years that are the hardest to tune due to our OBD I computers, we need to add a SCT chip to ours first (or others systems that replace our computer) We are not fast by any means but they are a ton of fun to drive! Feel your car out at first & see what she needs. Do a complete fluid change, Coolant, Rear end, Transm. Brake fluid, oil & filter, check your air filter clean if it is a cleanable one or just replace. Change your plugs ....look at your brakes & see how much left....have the suspension all checked out & replace any worn out components....bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, steering box/ ragjoint condition...Shocks & struts evaluated...all the good safety stuff! Oh yeah check the drive shaft U Joints too...Lube them at least if they are not loose.

THEN look into the funner stuff like a loud exhaust & lowering it...& Lower control arms....& subframe supports welded in....Have fun!

Yea my first impression is wow, car looks really good especially since these cars usually look like theyve been taken to the scrap yard multiple times. This one actually looks babied

Those are not the factory val e covers which would also make me wonder if they did the gt40 heads as well.

You say rough over all, but the only screaming rough to me is the rip in the driver's seat. I love the interior colors. For a 94 GT, it looks like it's in real good condition. Take it out of 4wd and you'll have yourself a nice car there! Congrats.

When I said rough all over I pretty much meant it needs the usual stuff, brakes and tires are are all bad, suspension is gone, alt and battery are dead, power steering does not work, interior needs gutting/cleaning,just normal light restoration stuff. The more I'm going over the car the more I'm loving it.
One of my next issues to address is some top end ticking,I'm going to look into checking/adjusting the valves.

If they're factory stamped rockers then there won't be much to do other than just check that the bolts aren't lose. The ticking is more than likely caused by old lifters not pumping up anymore which will cause a tick

I'm guessing it's a pretty high mileage car and unfortunately there's no way to know what has or hasn't been done without really tearing into that motor.

Regardless tho, for the price you got I'd be totally stoked. Seems like a great pony to start a good build with!!!!
