I picked this car up last night for $750-from a 60 year old cop! This year he did a new clutch kit, tires(Bri.Potenza's) and some elec. modules ect...Last year he did Flowmasters and drop springs.Sometimes it runs fine, other days it won't start(turns over).Sometimes it will be running fine for weeks, then die out like you turned of the key. This all started a few months after the Ford dealer replaced the ignition switch. It has a new coil, and the module behind the radiator. The car has high miles(185K)but it's SOLID and straight.Any help would be great!!!

Need more info. Try back tracking the problem. Check for fuel and spark, etc. Check the fuel injector harness. mine shorted out on the lower intake and kept blowing the fuel pump fuse.

Looks good man... With electrical stuff you just have to start from scratch sometimes and just go from there.

The fact that it runs and isn't totalled for $750 is a helluva deal though, can't argue with that.

I'm no help, but good luck.

I'll guess the pip inside the dizzy...

I had a similar issue with my truck and it turned out to be something totally different; there was a chip installed on the j3 port of the computer that went bad. All kinds of crazy stuff would happen including just shutting off when going down the road... :BangHead:

In this case I still think looking at the pip will reveal the issue...

I would have to say the distributor as well. I would also think the module on the inner fender near the mass air and air box could be the culprit. Do you smell fuel when you are cranking it over when it stalls? If you do then more likely the module for the ignition. If you don't smell fuel, then it's the distributor's pickup is dead. Just two guesses, where I would start at least.

If I had to guess I would say the distributor also. If you think it is the starter most of the time you can hit it with a hammer and it will work for a short amount of time. If you hit the starter with a hammer and it works you might need a starter. I don't think thats it. If the starter was bad it wouldn't turn over. Thats my 2 cents worth.

Sound like the PIP (also called halls effect) is going out. Get a oem unit new not reman. Reman does not guarantee the PIP is new and not just tested and painted.

UPDATE-Me and a friend worked on the car today. We gave it a good bath and blew the whole car out (inside/out and underneath) with compressed air. After that we disconnected the battery for a while. When we put the battery back in it fired up and ran like a NEW car!We let it run for nearly an hour to get it hot and see how it would run.Everything was perfect, even shut it off and started it a few times. Then we let it cool off for a few minutes and it wouldn't start. It sounded like almost wanted to start but wouldn't.I'm thinking about getting a new distributor for it.How are the MSD's?

Don't waste your money with May Suddenly Die dizzy. I picked a re manned dizzy for about $110 with a lifetime warranty.
