Hey, My name is Jared. I just purchased a 94 gt 5spd black with tan leather. Has some slight body damage but will be an easy fix! I live in South east kansas. Hoping to learn more about modding the car. Ive had a couple s197 mustang gts recently so I'm sure the sn95 modding is alot different. Im sure the basic idea is the same in the beginning- CAI, tune(or chip??), and exhaust. If anyone can point me in the right direction that be great! Thanks, Jared

welcome to the club.
Most will say do gears first. 3:73 or 4:10's. then HCI. depending on yur budget. cheap way-gt40 heads and intake and a cam then a tune. Deep pockets- TFS top end kit the a tune.
what is you ultimate goal- drag racing, autocross/road course, fun cruiser?
We like pics too. post some

Dont have any pics yet but will soon. My goal for the car is to drive it daily and have fun with it. I want it to have some decent power but dont want to do anything to affect it drivability too much. Which mean the 4.10s are out for a while. Do bolt ons do much for these car? I know on my 05 it had cai, 91 race tune, offroad midpipe, under drive pullies, suspension, ect. Mainly all bolt on stuff and it made a huge difference! Just curious if the same kind of approach would do much for my sn95?

4:10's are not that bad. I'm running them and getting 19 MPg's too but 3:73's are a good all around gear..
CAI won't give you much but making the engine bay look better..stock block can handle up to 500hp before splitting.
It's really up to you how far you want to go. Any major changes will need a tune to run the best. I wouldn't recomend getting a chip burned via mail order. Even though 2 Mustangs may have the same mods they can run quite differently.

with a cai and exhaust you wont need a tune. not until you get into big stuff like an HCI. i have a 95 5.0 and im doing a gt40p heads (ported, polished, and big valves), gt40 intake, and a trickflow stage 1 cam. with headers, bigger throttlebody, cai, and mac exhaust. the gt40 heads you can pick up at a local pull apart for a decent price along with that intake, after that you can spend as much or as little on them as you want. im spending a good bit but im still coming up 400-500 dollars cheaper than aluminum heads which for a good set will be over grand, i have about 600-700 dollars in mine. and they will flow damn near as good as a low end aluminum head. so they are great for power and a budget build. some people say they take a special header but you can get around that with 90* sparkplug boots. i picked up my heads and intake at my pull apart for around 160 for all of it. of course if you want better heads you can look on other forums or here for people selling aluminums for around 600-700 dollars. me i didnt have the cash on had so i spaced it out over time and was easier on the wallet. you can also find headers almost anywhere. i bought some ford racing short $60 shipped. just dig around and have fun man. dont hesitate to send pms and ask questions. there are alot of 4.6 guys on here but us 5.0 are still pokin around.

My vote would be gears. 3.73s will work well for you. It's what I have and I used to drive it daily and on the highway up and back to college.

I have a MAC CAI I just took off my car. It is in great condition. PM me if you're interested.

would there be any gains in adding just the e303 cam to my 5.0? Its only a couple hundred bucks, but from what Ive read it looks like tuning is def needed. And you say on these cars its better to take it somewhere to get tuned?

The biggest restriction on the 5.0's is the heads and intake.
Just pick up gt40 or Cobra heads and intake then do the cam of your choice and get it all tuned at once.
A mail order tuner can't see what your engine is really doing so they will burn the chip to on the safe side. Whereas a tuner on the dyno can see what the engine is really doing and make adjustments accordingly to get the best bang for the buck.

i agree wit CC. btw the e303 is a very small cam. you wont really see much gain from it. most people go with something like a trickflow stage 1 or a b303 me personally i went with a trickflow stage 1. i am still waiting on my heads to come back from the shop. im going to get my car tuned soon before the hci and then after the hci and i can give you my gains.

If I put an O/R midpipe on it, will it throw a check engine light, or is it old enough it doesnt matter?

No cats equals check engine light. You can get a cat back and do like I did and gut your cats. Sometimes the cell comes on but goes away pretty quick.

Running a catless mid pipe WILL NOT cause a CEL on a 94/95 5.0. The o2 sensors are before the cats therefore the engine doesn't know what's going on after the o2 sensors.
