I'm working on a budget here and I will soon be returning to the sports car world, maybe in the form of a 5.0 94-95. I'd like to have a 350 horse street car plus nitrous. Is a blower the most cost effective and reliable way to get where I want to go? Or would a good top end, bolt ons and tune do the trick? Which combo will be easier on my pocket and take the nitrous abuse better? I won't use the funny gas a lot maybe once or twice a month. Gas mileage isn't a huge concern as I have a DD but I don't want I ride that'll take half my paycheck to cruise around one night. Any of you guys had both combos (blower/bolt ons vs built engine w/heads cam and the rest ) ? I haven't bought anything yet I'm still doing some research on what kind of car/mod combos offer the best power to budget ratio. I'd love to hear any opinions and I'll look into them all.
Thanks
Aaron

You can make 350 to the wheels easily in a 5.0 with heads cams, and an intake... it's relatively cheap to mod these old 5.0's and pretty much, horsepower per dollar, i would think the 5.0 would be the best... you can buy the whole trick flow top end (Heads, cam, intake, rockers, valve covers) for I want to say $3100 that with some 24# injectors, matching 76mm maf, and a 70mm throttle body with a Cold air intake should get you at, or over 350.

Sorry, but that kit wont get you over 350 at the wheels.... that kit can make about 315-320 at the wheels, but thats about the beat it'll get and that with LTs which you even mention in your estimate.

The easiest way to get where he wants to be is by buying a car that already has an H/C/I kit on it (maybe even find a factory cobra if the prices are right) and then add a centrifigal blower.

so basicly all bolt ons, heads/ cam, and a lot of dyno tuning gets ya about 310hsp.....not bad, add a nice ignition system and a little spray and it will run with lightly modded 03's, right?

yep,the only thing he dont have on his car is suspension for me there is no sense on having 350hp if you cant put them on the wheels :)
heres my way of thinking for mods IMO :eek:uttahere:
1.-Exhaust
2.-Suspension
3.-Rear end
4.-Brakes
5.-Transmission
6.-Motor
7.-Cold air intake
8.-Exterior
9.-Interior

anybody?

Most of the time the Trickflow kit falls short of 300whp for whatever reason. The kit is about $2200 and does include a lot of extra stuff, though.

but figure with a 100 shot of nx (cause nx is rated to the wheels) he should be at is 300 rwhp mark. I am at 326 with a 125 of ZEX

I wouldn't worry about the kit and if your interested in research then just find some good parts and get them. I don't like kits, What i did was just get a trickflow heads (170cc) for 1450 and the way i see it, if it isn't enough power, port them out to 190cc and u'll be fine. But just get a custom cam, nice heads, and full exhaust and intake and you'll be over 300, and trust me man 300 is a lot... lol. If that doesn't settle with you then simply get some nos and hopefully nothing blows up :thumb:

If you got to around 300 or so NA and then threw a blower and or nitrous at it, youd be quicly approaching if not exceeding the stock blocks ability to keep its internals internal. You might want to consider an aftermarket block if you plan for power exceeding 350.

Everybody was telling me 75mm TB is too big but when i swaped stock TB for 75mm TB

Check out for yourself

I went from 292HP/328TQ to 312HP/340TQ which is 20HP/12TQ gain over stock 60mm TB

Hey sweet video by the way. Do you mind me asking what your rpms were at with your peak numbers on the first dyno run(the one before the head/cam swap)? And also what size TB you were running before you switched to the 75?
