I'm a new member in need of some help. Ok here it goes, I had my heads rebuilt because of a blown head gasket. I put everything Back together. When I went to start it, it would turn over but it seemed to have no compression. We took it apart and found out that when we took the rockers off it had enough compression. Once we installed the roller rockers it lost compression again. Anyone have any ideas, Thanx in advance for any help, by the way its a near stock 95' GT

you need to make sure that 1st you have the right pushrod length, and 2nd make sure you are installing them properly

Yep, sounds like the valves are being held open, that would cause it.

I'm installing the original pushrods back into their original place. Is there a specific way to install them? I called the guy that did my heads and he said there might be something wrong with my lifters, how would I know?

Well there's 16 lifters, and the chance of them all going tits up at the same time is pretty unlikely imo.
Ideally the pushrods should go back in their original places, but even if you shuffle them all you would'nt get what you have now.
Are you adjusting them in the correct way? If they are overtightened that would cause the same thing.

Did you remove the timing chain? The reason I ask is, if the crank and cam are not timed properly, you may not have compression on any given cylinder.

Just a thought.

I believe we removed the cover only but not the chain itself. I'm getting the heads checked now, the guy told me that it wasn't that bad of a job so it must me something other than my heads. He told me that if might be the way I prepped my lifters, anyone know exactly how it's done? Is there a tech article anywhere?

Turning the engine over on the key will prime most lifters, in all the years i've only seen VW ones that have to be dis-assembled and primed by hand, there may be others, but if it was running before all this work was done, it has to something that you or the shop have caused.
I still think the rockers are holding the valves open, just how are you adjusting them?

ok I got my heads back and installed them today as well as a set of lifters since most of mine were stuck. I went ahead and did a comp check on the heads and I have comp, but once I go on ahead to install the rockers on I loose comp again. They are stock rockers and non-adjustable. I torqued them down to 25 ft.lb. Like the manual says and I get no comp. I'm seriously running out of ideas (and money). Anyone?

I have read that you must sometimes shim them, depending certain circumstances. I would do a search on pedestal mount rocker arm installation, or post a new thread about this.

here is a silly question for you......... Did they mill the heads? if they did, then yor pushrods are going to be too long.

Just go to your ford dealer and order a shim kit FORD MOTORSPORTS: FMS-M-6529-A302 They will set you back a whopping $8.95 there is a .030 shim and a .060 shim you can stack a 30 and a 60 if you need .090
