Hey guys, im looking at a 94 gt. Its a 5 speed and has a tri-ax shifter. I drove it last night and there is a noise coming from the tranny or clutch. When I take off nicely it sounds like a buzzing noise. My brothers S2000 has the same problem, and Honda said its normal for them. Does it just need a tranny flush or what could be the problem?
Thanks!!

What do you mean "buzzing" noise? Does it make the sound all the time? Clutch in? Clutch out? Neutral? Rolling? Stopped?

It only makes the noise when i let off the clutch and start rolling. Clutch in it dont make the sound, neutral it dont make the sound, not very often rolling it makes the sound and stopped dont make the sound.
By buzzing i mean, like it sounds like its buzzing. I really dont know how else to explain the sound.

Hmmm. I'm afraid I couldn't hazard an intelligent guess based off that information. The best I can say is that it sounds transmission-related since in the cases you've provided, the gears within the transmission would be turning.

Oh, and it doesn't sound normal.

Don't buy a car based on emotion. You'll be better off waiting for the right car. Trust me. I've been there.

The throwout bearing should make a pretty distinct "squeak," however, I guess describing a sound over the internet is probably pretty tough. :hammer:

If it is indeed the throwout bearing, that's a $20 part and a day's worth of work.

If I do buy the car, first thing im going to do is a tranny flush and put some royal purple syncromesh in there. Hoping that will fix the problem, if not ill try the throw out bearing idea.
Thanks alot guys, your being alot of help!

As Paul already mentioned above is not an expensive part, the problem is the labor, it could cost you anywhere from $100 to $500 depending on the shop.

Good luck keep us updated :thumb:

Synchros commonly make a "whirring" sound, doesn't even mean they're bad, it just means put some synchromesh in it.

Honestly, and normally, around 200-225k. Of course every accessory will need replaced, etc. And there are some freaks running around with 400k, but don't count on that.

yeah if it only makes the noise when your foots off the clutch and stops when the clutch is depressed, then its def an internal tranny problem. do like you said, have a shop check it out but beware if you seem like you dunno stuff about cars they will try to rape you, go to a trusted shop and dont take any shit. :welcome:
