Hey fellas, the 4.6 people know i asked about a battery relocation kit and some advice, but i was hoping to get a little more help here. :)

I just need to know the safest way to kill the engine with the switch. Ive been in alot of contact with Mark from MAD Electrical. The safest way to do this is to kill the battery and the alternator at the same time. ... This is not what the NHRA wants... So.... here I am trying to figure the safest way to kill my motor. Here in Colorado, (i called the track) the tech will walk to the back of the car and kill your motor to make sure your off switch is working properly.

Now, my question is, is there a way to kill your ignition? AS IF YOU TURNED YOUR KEY OFF? then you could run the switch to your ignition instead of your battery and it would do the same thing?

Obviously im just thinking.... I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CAR'S ELECTRICAL. Is there any way around the unsafe switch forced upon us by NHRA.

The problems with the current switch set up: when the battery is killed, and the motor is killed, there can be a voltage spike that fries your ECU. (obviously i dont know a whole lot about this, maybe i got confused about something, but i can track down the articles i read if you guys would like)

anyways, can anyone help me out on some basic car electrical systems?? such as what the red wire does and what the black wire does?

what happens when i disengage the black wire but not the red one while the car is running?

what happens when i disengage the red wire but not the black one while the car is running?

what happens if i disengage both?

what happens if i disengage the alternator and not the battery?

obviously i need some guidance here :)

well i know if you kill the alternator the car will still run. found that out when the alt. belt broke on my beater.

i think you should wire the switch up to a pump that pumps a mix of sand and water into your oil. that would kill it quick ;)

I am not sure which red and black wire you are talking about to be able to help.

There are only 2 or 3 ignition wires in the colum that control everything, a few relays controled by one wire could kill all of them at the same time with out any big deal. The fuel inertia switch is back in the trunk, not sure if you could use it to kill the fuel to the motor.
