So the L is tuned but im NOT happy. Ok first off let me say that it drives great and runs VERY strong, but the numbers suck :-[ :-[ Here is the sheet .......

ScannedImage-1.jpg

Ok now, the temps in the shop was UP so that was hurting my numbers ( 86* at dyno time ) and I had about 12 pulls during the time it was on for tuning. I was on the dyno for about 6 hrs  the tuner had some trouble getting the a/f adjusted because of some kind of problem with the mass air. Here is what I know right now, im running out of fuel on the top so I need dual 255 pumps and 60lb injectors. I have a very mild tune on it because of this, and im at 402rwhp ( at least 30 short of where I should be ) and same on the tq. Now as for the reason for this the fuel plays a part but there is another problem somewhere thats going to have to be dealt with. Im in talks with other L owners now and a few diffrent L shops with dynos. Im not sure whats going to happen from here, until I get some info back from some guys that can give me some good direction on what too look for as part of the power robbing problem. Like I said the truck runs great, and just too show you how well, remember back when I put my drag radials on and I said It wasnt as fun to drive because it WOULD NOT chirp the tires on the shifts any more?? That problem is fixed now ^-^ it barks the hell out of the shifts now :) So the power is there, just NOT what should be there. Ill keep you guys up to date on whats going on.

tell me about it, its a mystery to most people I have talked to as to what all it hurting my numbers :-\ :-\ im waiting for Rick at Amazon to get back in touch with me now. Im considering taking the top half back off, pulling the cooler and giving it a good flush. Even though it didnt look bad at all when the blower was off, maybe it has internal clogging that is hurting me :dunno:

sorry to hear dyno numbers were not what you expected. the same happened when i got my gt tuned. i expected about 330 to the
wheels and i only put down around 300. i had a hot temperature dyno day too ( 92 degrees IN shop) but some people say it is just a
number, and as long as it runs good and puts a smile on your face when you waste away some expensive rubber, then so be it. O0

thats very true, but my point is as big as my smile is NOW im just thinking of how MUCH bigger it would be if I had all the power im suppose to have   I feel like Ive been robbed :-\

thats what i thought too leaving the dyno, but my car was running good so i got over it. i would do some more research like you said about your fuel issues and then maybe it will wake the ol white lightning up even more, who knows? :dunno:

Ive done more reading in the last 24 hours that i have done my whole life :-\ :-\ thats why I wasnt on this forum yesterday evening. Ok I have just read from a few guys with similar cases like mine, and it seems that maybe the fact that the dyno room temps were a little high and the fact that I had heat soak on my engine that could have played a part in why my numbers were low. But it still doesnt explain why that first run was so bad :-\ :-\ im tempted on just getting the fuel stuff, cleaning my intercooler and going back to the dyno around the end of NEXT month when the temps here are in the 50's I just hate the thought of taking all that crap back off to get that damn cooler out to clean it........WE SHOULD HAVE DONE IT TO BEGIN WITH :slap: :slap: :slap:

42lb injectors should be fine for 500ish RWHP on blown applications... :dunno:

this is a screwy sisuation here, some L's do fine with them and others dont.....Im one that does need them :-[ and on top of that DUAL 255lb pumps

no its not bad, but its not the 430+ that I should be seeing. for the most part about 430 is the NORM, but there is quite a few guys that have done that on a MUSTANG dyno meaning on a Dynojet they would have put out 460 or 470. Im about 30 short on my hp and tq.......and im looking at every angle that could cause this too :help2:

Ya honestly, no to bash your tuner but correct me if Im wrong but that Wideband on his dyno should not be jumping around like that. My buddy has a lightning and he had a P&P blower on it with all the bolt ons with a 2upper and 6 lower making right at 15psi and he pt down around 435-440rwhp. I do not know what his timing was set at but it ran good but the bottom end did not hold up long....LOL If you get a chance call my guy at PSi Motorsports in Houston, TX. His name is patrick and that is who everyone pretty much in the HALO club takes their lightning to when getting it tuned. Patricks number is 281-557-2874, he will be able to help you with your questions. Tell him you were sent by David Roadarmel from HALO Club. When we had all that you have on our lightning it did not need 255's and 60lb'ers until we put the built engine in it with Stg.2 heads and cams which put us over the limit of the fuel system.

Also I completely agree with cleaning the intercooler and honestly in 8hrs that we were at the tuner we only made 4 runs on the dyno and the last one was just to see if it could handle more timing which it couldnt. The lightnings are horrible for having heat soak which really kills the numbers. If you do some research you can make a little by-pass wire that you insert in the fuse block in place of a black relay box and it will keep the intercooler pump running and really help cool the water off dramatically and this helped our truck big time, but if you do not have an awesome battery put a charger on it while the engine is not running just to be safe.

What type of upper are you running, because that is one thing I ever liked but it was not my truck to make the call but we had a 4# lower on it and when we put the 6# on it the blower did not like it because it was just spinning too fast for the stock eaton and we even had a stage 4 P&P on it to just like yours. Just something to consider if nothing else works.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance and feel free to ask any questions because I can get answers for you quickly if needed from my engine builder because that is who I have learned everything from and he has alot more experience with me. Trust me I have seen these babies go easily because they get so sensitive when you get into the certain HP ranges.

Good Luck, keep us up to date. You'll find the problem, no big deal. It does run very good for a 5000 LB truck though!!!!

:police: ;D :dancing6:

Also I forgot check out your By-Pass valve, alot of Lightning guys here at HALO run into not making good power because the truck cant build boost worth a shit or they can build boost but just not as much as they should because of the By-Pass valve not sealing up enough. Since the part is not that much I dont think than I would recommend going ahead and changing it out, because alot of times that is part of the routine maintenance on those trucks. I think one of your biggest enemies right now is heat soak.

Good Luck
