OBD-I Issue

Is it safe to use a jump wire or a paperclip to check CEL codes? I'm a bit wary (a true understatement) about sticking pieces of metal in the CPU. I know life would be easier if I got an OBD-I code reader, but after the GT purchase and Christmas, it's tight. I just want to read these damn codes as it is happening more frequently. Thanks in advance!

Yes it's safe. I've done it to quite a few 95 and below fords and never had an issue.

Yes, but all I can find on the procedure are hand drawn diagrams (THIS: http://dfwmustangs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7908) ,and I do not want to leave anything to chance.

I pulled the EEC Module from the wheel well, I know all of this should be straight forward, But no comprendo on this end...o (I had to do it)

Do you have a Haynes/ Chilton manual?
I read my codes with a paperclip. Never done it any other way.
That link is pretty clear. There are 2 connectors.
1 looks like a trapazoid with multiple wires coming in the back.
The other is a connector with 1 wire
Plug your jumper between the 2 as per diagram.

I don't have a Chilton Book, but I found a thread on here with all the code combos...I think.

Is the single wire connector attached to the wheel well as well?(Say THAT 3 times fast)

yes. that's the STI connector the link was talking about.
My car had a dust cover like the one in the link. both of the connectors were plugged into it to keep the crud out..
