Holy overwhelming response, Batman! I'm genuinely surprised, definitely didn't figure I'd get this much love. I'll try to answer all the questions, hope I don't leave any out...
Sold the cobras and tribars to a friend on local forum to buy these wheels/tires. Whole setup was >$700. The 315s I had on the Cobras were like Telly Sevalis, and it was gonna be just under $300 for buying/mounting new tires -I didn't have it. I wanted the ground clearance and comfort and oldskool look of the 15"s and wanted to go a different route so I did. MEGA bonus is that the front tires are "75k mile tires" and rears are "50k mile tires" If I get half of that I'll be super happy.
Funny that someone mentioned "Cars" b/c it's my son's favorite movie and Lightning McQueen was part of my inspiration. I was watching the movie w/ him one day and noticed that his overall shape was very much like our SNive's. Then I saw how cheap these wheels were and I was off&running. Other part of my inspiration is that I love Bobbers and old hot rod paraphanalia: this car is kind of a tribute to that and a response to donks and SUVs on 30s. It looks cheap and white trash on purpose. The magic of these wheels is like that of the trucker hat or camo shorts -they don't "match" anything, so everything goes!
The paint on the car was one of the reasons I bought it; I was looking for a Sapphire Blue stang w/ less than 100k miles. I searched for like 4mo. I gave up for a month and then found this one w/ less than 75k on it in my town! Haven't been able to afford to make any changes till recently, so I drove it stock-ish for a/b 2.5yrs.

This car is a perfect extension of me: I love western shirts with snaps, cheap beer, Smokey and the Bandit. I don't take myself too seriously and my car embodies this attitude. It's just for fun!

The thing that I REALLY hate about this thread is the '00 Cobra R valence that mysteriously found its way onto the S197.

Yeah I noticed that too, any more pictures of that S197?
That's a guy from my local club/forum.

Should be easy to find pix there...

I think it looks like pure a***ole honestly. I enjoy cars with low offset, aggressive fitting wheels, but your car now looks like it belongs to a redneck imbred guy that doesnt understand offset and backspacing.
It's like Dolly Parton says: "takes a lot of money to look this cheap". I did a lot of measuring to make it "not fit" just this way. There's some rubbing (particularly on the driver's side) but it's not fierce.

If you're going to be original, plan to be copied.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. "Biters" are always a possibility when you throw out something new, but you guys will all know that I was the originator.

take pictures outside of your driveway, and farther away from the car, i don't think it looks "horrible"
It's classic w/ my local club that I always take my pix in my d'way, so that's why I did it. I intend to do another shoot in a diff locale... when I get the time...
Re taking pix from farther away: it was early aftenoon, the sun was harsh and coming straight down so I felt like shooting it in the shade would show more detail. PLUS, my camera isn't fancy enough (or I'm not good enough with it) to deal w/ all the glare of me not standing in the shade with the car, so that's why pix are so close.

I would have done a 15x10 on the rear. But that's just me. Other than that, try to get some decent looking center caps in there or paint your hubs and you'll be set. I dig it man!
Considered the 10"width b/c I wanted the most lip dif b/t the front/rear wheels, but it was more important to me to have the maximum diff b/t the tire width and wheel width to have the sexy bulge.

This is off topic but you have one of my favorite colors for the sn95...I would maximize on the looks of that car just because of that color. Awesome stang.
As I said in previous post, this color was top of my list (actually it was the whole list!) when I went SN95 shopping. Dated a girl in college who's best friend had one and I always loved that car.
The juxtaposition (definition: to place two or more things together, especially in order to suggest a link between them or emphasize the contrast between them) of the classy paint w/ the trailerpark wheels is what makes this cool to me. This is also why I don't have centercaps and haven't painted my rusty hubs. It's got a raw feel to it like the bobbers that I love so much.

Wicked story. I think it's time for you to build a rat rod! :eek:ccasion14:
In my dream world this would have either a Boss 429-based motor (would be 500+cid) or a flathead ford. And I'd have a trad rod 33 w/ the same motor.

Being different is okay, many different wheel's that you could have gone with if you wanted to be different! these wheels make take away from the unique color sn95 you own!!! they dont do anything for me! I guess I kinda like being like everyone else! those wheels look like they belong on a Jeep Wrangler

I hate rat rods, whenever I see one I think the guy was too lazy to fix the car properly and they started this whole "rat rod" crap we all know today. They are right though, those wheels take away from a very nice colour, JCSapphire had by far the best Sapphire blue I have seen, you should look at some pics, I'm sure they are still around.

I have always felst the same way about how our cars resemble Lightning Mqueen, especially slammed with a S281 wing. I saw your pics the other day and didnt want to post because it instantly gave me images of you stuffing 4 dudes with mullets in there, smuggling some moonshine in the trunk and then crashing because you only know how to make left hand turns....but the look has grown on me and I really like it, the only other thing I would of done was make the front tires wider. It looks like a race track set-up but with the skinny tires up front, handling would suffer. Anyway, Looks cool and im sure there will be some people following this trend.

mullets and moonshine! I love it... this is kind of the tongue-in-cheek look I was going for. I've thrown around ideas of personal plates that say "MNSHYNE" "SHYNER", "SHYNRNR", "JUGSNBAK"... something like that. I love the fact that nascar started out as a way for shinerunners to race their cars, and my big idea for the car plays to that history. I want to add a vinyltop (just on the roof panel, not down the side rails) to really amp up the pseudo-nascar look. Think that'd really go w/ my dream of the big block Boss -of course I'd have to win the lotto to pay for the BOSS!
As for setting a trend: who'd think that cheap wheels on an inexpensive car would be a big deal! If I'd had more money I might've gone w/ Cragar s/s, American Racing "Ansen Sprint" style (slots) or Keystone Klassics. Anyone that wants a more palatable version could rock any of those 15" styles for right around a grand.
Big money guys could rock E/T wheels -love those...

Rat rods and bobbers come from the same kinds of guys; they're old school dudes that'd rather do it themselves, and have their own sense of cool. It's rebelious. My car is mild by their standards, but seems to create a stir anyway...

The difference, your car is complete and a nice car, rat rods look like s*** for the sake of looking like s***, I don't care if it's "rebelious", I call it laziness.

I'm feeling it like WHOA!!!!

When I used to have a MK3 Jetta, many kids used to do the same on their cars... They used the Diamond Racing wheels kinda like the ones you have.

I would be too much of a pu$$y to do this, but it looks AWESOME so mad props to you!!!!

I think our cars are too 'sleek' to pull off a high profile tire like that. but to each their own.
I should take some pix of it from further away (love to get some rolling shots!). The mad rake + slammed stance makes it look really smooth. I can see how it'd look "chunky" in these pix. I'll try to get together with a friend who can take some pix of her in action and from better distance.
