Oh jimminy f'n crickets to all hell

i just went to taco bell and on my way back i started to hear a loud chattering sound, when i got home i listened to it and its a really loud chattering sound in the front driver side valve cover, i think it may be a loose rocker rattling around and i hope theres not a bent valve involved, is there anything else it might be, i'm going to rip the upper intake off tomarrow and check the rockers, is there a way to check if i have a bent valve without taking off the head
