A elak down test is just like a cranking compression test, except they use one more gauge. They test the cranking compresion, they see how much leaks out. Indicating bad ring's/or valve guides

Im pretty sure only 96 gts got the oil light.

I dont know if mine is burning oil or not.

There does look like some oil residue around the valve covers.

My car seems to go down a half quart every couple of months.

And they can tell where it is leaking from right... I read in a book that they can tell if its the rings or the guides or whatever when they do it.

On the Cobra's the low oil sensors are at the front and back of the pan so if you park on an uphill or downhill it will trip one of the sensors which kicks on the light. Also, the drain holes in the 4v heads are rather small and the heads hold a quart of oil in them so if you shut the car off for a few minutes and then start it again, the oil doesn't have a chance to leak down out of the heads and the oil level will be low enough in the pan that it will trip the light. I only believe my low oil light if the car was parked for over an hour on dead level ground.
