Lets make this quick and simple, for a 95 gt, should i get a mechanical or electric oil pressure gauge? Also what do i connect this to and where? Thanks gentlemen. Also i like pics for instaltion purposes.
It ties into the block where the factory oil pressure switch is installed, just behind the timing cover on the driver side. I have pics of this, but my hosting died and I need to re-host.
Mechanical. And definitely run a copper line through the engine bay, then the plastic line through the firewall and what not. The plastic line will get brittle over time and eventually crack from the heat.
Gentlemen I respectfully disagree...I choose the electrical full sweep Autometer ...I do NOT want an oil line into my interior at all! Plus the electrical transducer sending units are reliable & accurate, so why wouldn't you use one? It is quite a pain dealing with both plastic tubing & the copper...and don't you dare kink it...
I dealt with pressure transducers all my adult life at work & they are the way to go. Do you have any experience with say the autometer ones to the contrary?
If you bu a brand new autometer gauge it comes with everything. Im using the nylon hose that comes with it and just putting something heat retardant around it so it wont get too hot and break and whatnot
Mechanical are cheaper for sure but so much harder to deal with still not worth it in my opinion. LOL...no heat shield necessary! I don't have to worry about an oil leak inside my car!
I prefer mechanical because of the accuracy and speed of them. When my car was on, my gauge read what it was supposed to. I've never used an electrical oil pressure gauge however. Can't say I was ever worried about an oil leak in my car either. I do know that my electrical temp gauges registered slow as hell.
I trust mechanical gauges more, and have had at least a half dozen various mechanical oil pressure gauges in my cars over the year, with not one leak. If you install the compression fittings correctly, you'll never worry about a leak.
i have a mechanical oil pressure. i put a T fitting on the block to utilize my stock oil pressure on the dash. also so the low oil pressure dummy light will still turn on. i used the copper tubing also. DO NOT KINK IT like said above. there is no way to get the kink out and your fvcked.
Before I give my opinion please note I have zero aftermarket gauge experience so far.
I'd go with an electric gauge if you don't mind spending the extra money, it just seems much simpler to me and I can't see it being less reliable. Also like said I don't like the idea of running an oil line to my interior. I've heard with fuel pressure gauges if you don't use an electric one you can't run the car on the track, granted fuel is much more flammable than oil but I wouldn't want either in my car.
