ok i have a completed pi swap right now and iv got a bent valve or something wrong with the valve train so one of my buddys is giving me some extra pi heads he has got. he said that i should repalce the oil pump when i do the swap because they sometimes go out and dont make the oil light come on. is that true and if so what would be a good one to get?? i got the ford racing head changing kit for the first pi head swap, could i reuse the headbolts and head gasket on my new pi heads. i might have put no more than 3000 miles on the headgasket and headbolts. umm i already got new timing chains, all new seals from the heads up pretty much. with the new heads im got some comp cams 102500, and gotta order some bbk headers and stuff any one got any suggestions for any of this?? any help would be appreciated :laughing4:

i'd probably start by trying to narrow down exactly what it was that broke in your motor and see if there could be another under lying problem that needs to be fixed. would truely suck to do the PI swap and fuck that stuff up to.

102500s will run good,

im about to get 102600s

as for the oil pump your kinda limited.. you can use a 03/04 cobra pump.. or ford racing makes one, also melling.

You put the heads on then bent a valve?
Sounds like you had PTV and the timing was off.

Stock oil pumps work fine for stock engines but if your upping the HP you might need more volume. The Cobra oil pump is better and has a bigger tube that comes with it. Consider forged gears for the pump also especially if you have underdrives.

PTV = piston to valve contact.

The head bolts are TTY= Torque to yield and are meant to be used one time only. Same with the head gaskets.

the valves were probably bent before you even installed them. and when you started running the car it just finished the job off. floating a valve will almost always end up in PTV and even if it just barely tapped a valve its enough to bend it at the speeds that the motor was rotating.

head bolts are one time use. if you remove them. replace them. the 90 then another 90 deg stretch the bolts so your pretty much at the bolts breaking point.

if you want to be able to remove and re use headbolts i suggest you buy a set of ARP studs as they dont currently make head bolts for our cars ( odd ).
