Overheating

So not only are my effing plug wires acting like a b*tch, I've got a severe overheating problem. I started with a freshly bored, boiled, and clean 302 block. bored .030 and honed. new everything on the bottom end, Crank, rods, bearings, pistons *flat top hypereutectic by Keith black*, new cam bearings, a TFS stage 1 cam, stock top end with a c.a.i., NEW WATER PUMP, NEW THERMOSTAT 180*, NEW RADIATOR stock replacement, NEW HOSES, and NEW T-Stat Housing, and new serpentine belt, all gaskets are new, yes head gaskets are on right, and yes the water pump is in the correct rotation.. now to the problems...

within I would say about 15-20 miles at 55-60mph highway speeds, from cold by the time i get to my destination the auto meter gauge is at 220 degrees, and the factory gauge is pegged on the "H." I've bled the air from the system completely, drained and replaced coolant, did a flush at that time too, I've still got this problem. What the hell could be causing this??? I have the stock pulley's too. and I've checked the condensor to make sure it's clear. I've hardwired the fan with the ccrm mod as well and it still does it. I'm seriously about 10 miles from selling it. :BangHead: :angry4: :violent1:

why did you advance the cam 5 degrees? are you sure its 5? thats a weird number as usually they are in increments of 2...

did you use a degree wheel and check the cam when you installed it?

my bad.. it should only be 2* at the cam sproket. I'm not sure how my dad did it, i was at work at the time but I can find out tomorrow or something. What would that do to it? I'm new to that whole thing.

advancing the cam changes the intake center line not the timing. by advancing it you are moving the power band to lower rpms...

verify with him to find out if he did in fact advance it or retard it and by how much. also ask him if he checked the cam with a degree wheel / dial indicator

anyways back to the overheating. my first step would be to yank the thermostat and throw it in a boiling pot of water and make sure it is opening since you said you burped the cooling system correctly. do you have another radiator cap to use? is it stock?

i have used 3 different tstats. I boiled the last one i put in there in a pot of water before i put it in and it opened at about 174 on my meat therm lol. but the radiator cap is a "vent cap" i think is the name. I'm going to try another cap tomorrow since i was plain ass disgusted with it tonight. I'm hoping it's something stupid like that. I dunno. Nice fox btw.

yeah that's what's in there now.. only thing i can even fathom is that there is something wrong with the water pump for some reason.. i know it's not the flow direction but maybe not moving enough coolant, or maybe the belt is slipping.. i know my dads f150 lunched a motor thanks to the w pump. discount auto parts, advance auto parts now, gave him the wrong pump, making it pull thru the top hose. He brought it back to them and showed them, they bought him a new engine and the right w pump lol.

what makes me think i am overheating is the fact that the coolant is boiling, and the readings on the gauges.. maybe it's not an H but it's the red line all the way to the "hot" side of the gauge.

220 degrees is fine. Stock gauges suck.

My car would readily run 228 degrees in the Phoenix heat during the summer. The SN cars just don't cool as well as the foxbody cars do.

really stupid question but your installing the thermostat the correct way right with the nipple facing you and the spring going into the intake?
