Oxidation

Just picked up this 88 5.0 LX for a damn good price. Only problem is it has cosmetic issues, its not the prettiest. The entire front clip and roof is oxidized as you can see from the pictures. What would you guys suggest to bring back the shine? Or do you think its too far gone to save?

I'd try to claybar it and do the mothers 3 step on them, just to see what you can get. But from what I can see, they're too far gone.

Haha, can you do it for cheap? I was told that Zaino might bring it back from oxidation like this. I guess I've got nothing to lose in trying. If all else fails I guess I could repaint it the same color so I wouldn't have to do the jambs, engine bay, etc.

clay bar wont help much i dont think.

best bet is to try Meguires Paint Cleaner see if that works if not its a lost cause and it looks that way to me but its worth $5 for the bottle.

i would say that your clearcoat is pretty much gone. repaint it for sure.

as long as its not chipping you should be able to make it look better than it does now but if your getting chips in the clear coat you might as well paint it

You can try be yourself, first a rubbing compound the red Turtle wax is for job like this :

After just wax with regular product, for better result you can go to a shine shop, I'm almost sure they can get good results because they have buffer, it's less expensive than a new paint.

id try a porter cable with the meguiars 3 step as mentioned

Couple buddies and I spent this afternoon working on it by hand with some mothers polish. Surprisingly, we got the paint to come out half decent. I'm sure if someone took a buffer to it it would clean up real nice. Still gonna take it to a guy that details cars and has the right stuff for this, but even from what I've done I'm pretty sure it'll look 10x better.

Poorboy's Pro Polish and my OD Light Polish will both work great for removing the oxidization. Most likely you will need to use a machine polisher to get really good results. I think the paint will come out of it, I've done jobs in the past that looked like that and made them look new again!

some rubbing compund with a high speed orbital should do the trick, my first mustang was a 91 and the paint was DULL!! probably worse then that one. so get some abrasive compound, a high speed orbital and buff away! follow up with some wax of course :santa_afro:
