Paint match fail

So I had a local paint shop mix me a spray can of my zf code ultra white. I needed to paint some hinges I got for my drivers door. I decided to paint my mirrors as well since the hinges matched almost identical... Or so I thought. Here's a pic of the fail:

Pretty shity. On a positive note you can see my new leather seats in the background.

go back and get them to mix it right. sometimes with paint shit happens lol. Or just get ur money back. but its a total fail. did u paint the mirrors while they were on the car ? or did you take them off and paint them?

did you give them the paint code or did you have them match your paint? I would be amazed if a shop can exactly match a nearly 20 yr old paint job by just the code. the car is not the same color today that it was when it was new, time takes a toll.

In fact the paint they put on there is more of a dull white than the crystal it supposed to match.

Also FYI white is the hardest color to match...before I opened the thread I knew it was a white car.

Just because you have the right code does not mean you have the correct alternate for the code. Only proper way is to do a vin match.

I gave them the code over the phone. I'm kind of curious if my car has been repainted before. There seems the be a line in the door jam where the colors are slightly different. I took the mirrors off the car to paint them and from across the yard they looked exact lol. Guess I'll have to take it in and have them match it up.

If you take it in for a match, take the fuel door with you... they can probably get it a little closer that way.

when wanting to match paint the only way to do it is to take a sample in for them to match to it. You paint fades/changes over the years and that might have been how it looked when it was new and over the years now they do not match.

This^^^you cannot expect the paint to match by just giving them the paint code. If you want a real close color match they must have a sample of your paint on the car so they can mix up a batch to match. Paint that is over 10 years old will def not look the same as it did when new.

I'm 99% positive my cars been painted. The hue in my paint is more blue where what I got from them was a cream color. I'll take the whole car in and get a new can made.

Alternate for the code?

Yes its kind of weird but not every say oxford white car is the same tint of oxford white. At my work we offer nason and dupont paint. Nason which is a cheaper line only comes in the most popular alternate for the paint code. So if there are 5 alt the one that belongs to the majority is what we have the mix ratio for. But now in dupont we have what is called a vindicator program where i can enter the cars vin after the paint code and it will pic the proper alternate for that car. That is about the jist of it

I used a few cans of Duplicolor perfect match paint and it was damn near perfect. Its not easy to find my color so I had to buy from amazon, but it might be worth a shot for you to find a can or two.

x2, thats what i did when i got my cobra bumper painted and it's almost damn near perfect.

Left the fuel door today he mixed a few after using the paint camera but it wasnt close enough. This way he can mix it and see what itll look like dry. So hopefully tomorrow I'll have the color to do my mirrors and take my horizontals back white. I'm getting one can free since the first can was so far off and he's mixing me some special clear to smoke my tails. Should be sweet when I'm done.
