Painted my mirrors

I have been wanting to do this for a while now & decided to go for it whilst i had the time.

Here is what they were like before,horrible & faded.

After

Just used rattle cans in my garage & i'm well pleased with the results.

I also put a few coats of clearcoat,maybe wet sand at a later date i'll see how they go with time.

Unfortunately i had a pair of perfect horizontal export lights for sale a while back & i could i hell find a buyer!

Eventually sold on Corral...i'll keep a lookout for some more.

Preparation is the key,give them a good wash first to remove any grease/residue & also rinse them off after each sanding,then dry thoroughly with a hair dryer.

I used 200 grit to rough up the surface,a flexible high build primer,600 grit wet & dry after each coat of primer,then base colour & finish with clearcoat.

I didn't try to remove the mirror glass as i didn't want to chance breaking the little plastic tabs,so just masked the glass off.I did dismantle the two sections to enable the paint to get a good coverage.

Welcome to the forum, you must be new here. People here have been sweating those since this sites inception to the point of $4-500 for a cheap pair now. They are neat, but not that neat to me.

Need a larger pic showing the whole car.

Im painting a set of mirrors as we speak, I hope they add something to the overall appearance, but at worst I think no one will even notice them or just assume they came painted stock...

I think for yours you should definitely color-sand the the vertical parts of the mirrors that are attached to the car. The actual mirror parts, you can leave alone since they need all the clear they can get to protect against paint chips and the orange-peel isnt really that noticeable on the part that sticks out.
