so whats the best process for painting emblems? both, best preparation methods, and best paint(s) to use.

also, i was interested in painting (at least) the fender emblems to match as closely to the color of my wheels, which is a hypercoated finish. im kinda curious as to what color would probably get me closest to that.

When I painted mine... I just sanded it with 400 and then hit it with color. I cleared it after too. The color stood up well. As far as color, I have no idea.

I dont know how hard this would be... but HD color matches. If you could throw some thinner in it to be able to spray it, that might work.

so you want me to drive over to home depot, pull one of the wheels off my car in their lot, walk into the store with it, and tell them to color match it? that seems a bit excessive :confused1:

the vin # isnt going to give me the color of the wheels... let alone aftermarket wheels.

nooo

i know what KIND of paint to get. its a matter of getting a close color, and the prep work to make it last, and not look like poo.

Well, honestly, since emblems are so small, and you want a CLOSE color, then ey-balling the color match would be the best idea imho. Because people aren't gonna realize the difference seeing as though the emblems are so small. Now, if you have hypercoated rims and paint the emblems red, you missed your target :-D Just eyball it and if it doesn't work. . . take it off. That doesn't work, buy new emblems and try again. I think that's the best shot you got! Also, just paint one emblem first, and if it looks good, continue. If not, try a different color.

I was referring more to the comment to try them in the first place.

Prep would be nothing more than a good clean up adn light sanding followed by primer or adhesion promoter.

Seeing how hypercoat is done by spraying black then buffing and clearing with a metallic clear coat why not try that? dont know where to buy metallic clear coat but try spraying a metallic gloss black, wetsand, buff, clear and see how it looks?
