I have, no pics, but to do a good job you need to pull them off, clean them thoroughly, use adhesion promoter and clear coat.

And I would liek to see a set of powder coated ones.

Jeff has pics of the ones I powdercoated for him in his build thread. Not my best work ever, but decent.

if they're the stock covers, you can paint them.
Do like JR said, and definately use adhesion promoter first.

i wouldn't clear them, unless it's a very good high temp clear.
these things get HOT and most clears will yellow over time.

Here's a pic of my stock covers, painted.
this is before I went turbo, and had Paul poweder the Alum valve covers.
Paul's kinda like a Jessy James in flip flops!

they are nylon composite actually, first off. I never grabbed a set to see if they could take the heat from the oven, but I bet they could, they're mounted to an engine after all.

Secondly, as I stated above, I've seen factory alluminum ones on early Crown Vics.

I agree the cover can take it. I have a cover I bought in a junk yard to do a test on the problem is there is cheap plastic baffles glued on the inside of them that will not last the heat cycle I assume. I have yet to test it I was just hoping you had done it already and could verify they would survive

Nope, the one's Jeff (dalamar) had coated by Paul were alluminum. And I never got around to it when i was screwing around with powder coating things.

If I was you, I would pick up a sacrifical set just to see, I still think it could work, and someone could make some dough on it.

I just used engine block paint. I'm a 4v but it shouldn't make a big difference.

The covers were pretty simple to take off for me because the motor was out. The only thing was the dipstick on the one side is pushed up against the cover.
