pi intake

i have a 98 vert and my intake is leaking at the top of the thermostat housing, i have tried every thing(gasket maker, new o-ring) but it wont go away, i dont know if it is cracked i cant tell, is this a common place for them to crack?
are the pi intakes a noticable increase in power if i have to replace it, and do you have to do a tune for it to work properly?

if its cracked then it needs replaced, pi is the best way to go. and its a good improvment

I picked up 30rwhp,18tq with just a PI manifold swap. Even though im blown, figure you cut those numbers in half for a n/a setup. you may pick up 15rwhp,9 tq. For the price, there isn't a mod out there that will add that, plus pull way higher in the rpm band than the non pi manifold.

for the thermostat housing, is there only the o-ring that sits on the thermostat, or is there another gasket that sits on the housing, im asking because mine only has the o-ring, but my coolant was flushed last year and i dont know if it was lost then?

Yes it only has an o-ring.

yup shes cracked, ive ordered a pi intake so it should be here in a week or so, hope i can atleast feel the diffence and then i wont feel so bad about having to do it!!

you should be able to feel the difference. A gain of 15 hp is pretty substantial, especially for less than 200 dollars

is it well worth the money to buy a tuner now that the car is breathing much better. can you dyno tune without a tuner, i dont have alot of experience with efi cars, the only car i have ever put alot of effort in is carbed, but i have a kid now so i hardly drive it any more (gas prices) but i want my daily driver (the mustang) to have a little more GO than it does

i don't think a tuner will benefit you the best right now. get some more bolts ons. then tune :happydrunks:

You can have a dyno tune flashed to your ecu, but a handheld, in addition to holding tunes for your car, let's you tweak, read and clear codes, and is just simply alot of fun.

A tuner is a worthwhile investment for a stock car, all the way to a blown/stroked car.

Yes, the 3 and the Livewire just cost more and have a bunch of extra functions you guy's can't use anyway.

i will buy a tuner when i get a t-body and plenum, right now all that is done to the car is BBK cai, magna flow cat back, auburn diff and 3.73's, my intake came today but i was at work so i gotta go pick it up.
is the t-body and plenum worth the money? i dont owe a dime on the car so its a toy now, im thinkin about puttin it on the bottle, i just want it to pull like my car i cant afford to have on the road right now!!!!!!!! man do kids ever throw a loop into havin toys

I know this question has probalby been beat to death :hammer: but since we are talking about a PI Intake swap...

What exaclty is required to swap the intake? i know some water holes need covering or something like that, what else?

does anyone have a link? i know its on here somewhere.

you need to drill and tap a hole for the 2nd temp sensor into the coolant crossover, an alternator bracket and coolant crossover line from a 99-04 gt (although i've been fine without the bracket and just used 5/8" heater hose for my crossover).
and you should buy some new fuel injector o-rings to be on the safe side.
thats all i can think of.
