PI swap + supercharger?

Hey,

So I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can on this, so I'm posting everywhere. I recently did a PI swap on my 96 stang. I've put maybe 1500 miles on it since then, and all is well (knock on wood). The engine has 115,000 miles on it.

A member in my club With the PI swap it is said that compression is bumped up to around 10.5:1. Would low boost (7psi or so) and with a "conservative" tune still be too much on my engine? When the car was apart for the PI swap, my ASE buddy said the pistons/heads/etc. looked in "suprisingly good condition."

What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Tyler

I installed a P1sc procharger with a 3 core intercooler over the winter time. I am only running 6psi of boost with a good tune so I can play it safe after doing the PI headswap. My numbers are 380rwhp / 369tq. The only thing that concerns me is your high mileage on your motor. If you don't dog your car all the time then I say go for it.

I agree with the guys, just keep the boost low and you SHOULD be fine, there is no guarantee though. never is.

definitely a majorly higher risk of detonation. I would almost consider it a necesity for some type of cooling like an intercooler.

a higher compression engine is better for nitrous. i would most likely just stick with the npi heads and get them ported if you're going the s/c route. It will be a much safer and more predictable combo

Do you ever stop and read what you typed before you post? Next time you go to give somebody some advice about a car, do everyone a favor, DON'T.

My advice is to get thick cosmetic headgaskets or take out the swirl dams on your PI cylinder
heads to reduce your compression. If you don't your run low boost and get a good tune that
is dead on.Getting a decent tune is key to the longevity of your engine.

Thats what my builder did for me. we went with cometic gaskets @ .051 thick to bring the compression down ..so she will be ready for my KB next year!!

The fuck I am talking about is you saying that a PI swap and boost is bad. There are plenty of folks that have done it safely. Why don't you talk to JR?

i'm not saying it's bad i'm just saying that it's a bigger chance of fucking things up. your tune has to be perfect for it.

if you have a lower compression then there is a bigger safety net. plus the npi heads being ported flow JUST as well as pi heads ported.

how bout the next time you think about trying to prove someone wrong you actually read what they post.

I did read what you posted. Most everything you post is full of misinformation. Thats the last I am saying in this thread to you. Not gonna argue with a kid.

It'll work great, DO IT!

I :dunno: why everyone says you need a good tune... Do you normally get crappy Wal Mart tunes? But for this one you'll step up to Nordstroms? EVERY tune should be good, damn.

Anyway, high compression and a little boost is a supah sweet combo, for both throttle response and how quickly the boost builds. Have fun :thumb:
