First race ever(I dont street race). I did decent but my car didnt. Best run was a 16.2@85mph. Car was sputtering and not accelerating cleanly at all. My cousin drove it(drives the 83' Stroker as seen in one of these pics) and got a 16.1! He said my MAF is probably screwed...

Just for kicks, my cousin wanted to try it :p. He actually just bought a wrecked 94 gt, turning it into a full blown strip car(will get pics when he's done)

Hope it is just your MAF!! That had my car running like crap!! I spent a lot on a tune-up, wasn't it. It wasn't $ lost. A guy mentioned the MAF, that was it. I wasn't racing, though.

We don't do 1/8 mile. My best 60' was 2.3, cousin's was 2.1 i think. He shifts WAY too high though, the engine is stock and he shifts at 5.5K, I shift at 4.5K.

i dunno about the 5.0's but 4.5 seems a bit low to be shifting at.

It's a stock engine, look at the power curves. It makes no more power after 4500rpm, no point in beating a dead horse!

Dude 4,500? Don't look at RPM's, and shift when you feel the car cannot make any more power, trust me, you can feel it. He shifted higher, and obviously made better time, so it was better. I would have babied it out of the hole and then wouldn't shift it till you can feel it drop down power a bit. That car should make low 15's and good driver possibly a really high 14. Honestly dude if your taking your car to the track to race it don't baby it, drive it like you stole it. You have 2 issues a driving issue as well as some type of mechanical issue. No offense just a few tips.

Haha, we weren't babying it, I was going hard and he was going all out. As I said, my Mass air was completely messed, as I changed it out for a new one yesterday and it made a HUGE difference in acceleration/engine idle/smooth and just runs alot cleaner.

Wish I could, a certain female in the house doesnt like it when me and the father go to the strip to race(its 2 hours away). I have opened it up on the dead street behind the street I live on(it's basically the edge of the city no one goes to) and wow, everything is cleaner, plus it feels alot faster now. The new exhaust system is really loud but I like that :). My cousin has a video of my 16.3 pass I think, she said she would send it to me sometime...
