I know a lot of guys on here have aluminum pulleys on their stangs. Every pulley on my stang is aluminum. I was wondering is it safe to polish them? I know that the inner and outer sides are fine. What about the part of the pulley that touches the belt? I am asking this because my idler and water pump pullys, which are both smooth, could use a cleaned and I am not sure if I should polish the actual part that touches the belt. I'm not even gonna try to clean the inside of the grooved ones. Any ideas?

It's fine to polish them. There's no reason to polish the grooved portions, and you don't want to polish the grooves down so they aren't uniform anymore.
