Hey guys. Just thought I share something with you. I work at Lowe's and of course I've heard about this craze for the Porter Cable 7424. I went to my tools specialist and we looked in the catalog. There is a model that porter cable makes and all specifications match 100%. The model number is the 7336SP. If you have a Lowe's near you please check it out for yourself. The polishing pad is included and it also give you the sanding pad. So your getting more product for the money. The 7424 at Lowe's is 149.99 and the 7336 is only 109.99. Save's you a few bucks. If you don't have a store near you just order it online at Lowe's.com. Has anyone found the 7424 for cheaper is so I liked to know. :dancing6:

I got mine at Lowes!

the pad that comes with it is ok for putting terry's over!!
I did all those overspray cars with slip on terry's and micro's over that thing.
It started separating from the backing.
It would make a good cup holder cushin.

I got the edge kit for mine, it works great!!
Need to try the different grades of pads, used the blue one with fine polish last night, until it got dark.
but the adapter AND snap on pads is very nice feature.

just went to Lowes and purchased the 7336SP... 118.xx after tax. im going to order the Lake Country 6.5" pads (2 yellow, 2 orange, 2 white, 2 grey and 2 blue), the 5" backing plate and the microfiber bonnet set with the lambs wool leveling pad.

i have (at least) one question though, what counterweight did your 7424 come with. this one has the 6" weight... someone explain the weights to me again.

being a detailer, i know this sounds crazy but this is my first PC buffer in 6 years of business so im going to need some info here and there... thanks in advance :)

"In general, the 5-inch counterweight (p/n 874011) should be used with a 5-inch or smaller backing plate, whereas the 6-inch counterweight (p/n 699933) must be used with a backing plate larger than 5 inches. Weight is the true determining factor for the proper counterweight, not the backing plate or pad size. If your machine vibrates excessively, you may need to switch counter weights. You will need a Torx driver (size T15, not supplied with the machine) to swap counterweights.

While on the subject of weight and counterweight, the lighter the backing plate and pad combination the more efficient the machine will be. Some suppliers assemble backing plate and pad combinations that have no business being connected to the Porter Cable 7424. After several years experimenting with a variety of backing plate and pad combinations, I have concluded that a light weight, 5-inch, flexible backing plate used in conjunction with a 6- to 7-inch pad achieves the best results. Larger backing plates and pads apply too much torque on the motor and rob efficiency. Also, to improve safety (stuff happens!), it’s best to use a pad that offers .75 inch or more foam clearance beyond the backing plate. "

Quote from here good read if ur new to the porter cable:

what size pads/backing plate are you using? next time you get a chance check the weight for me. when you remove the backing plate you can see it.
