I have the ford y302 aluminum heads and they don't flow much more than the gt40s. I want to get them ported. how much does this usually cost?

Depends on all you want done.

Port work could be any where from $300 - $600 depending on what you want and who is doing it.

well, I've been pondering going with a 351 soon, but if my heads don't flow well enough as it is what's the point of a 351. I mean if I get my heads ported. They will flow better even with a 302. I need to build the bottom end anyhow so I may just go ahead and get a 351, Everything from my 302 will transfer over accept my dizzy right?

Im with Lafenatu. Personally I like Thumper. He does a great port job. I was going to go that route but I ended up spending the cash and going with my trickflows. I got a really good deal so I couldnt refuse.

Not everything will transfer to a 351. Do a search, there are millions of threads on 351 swaps.

Your heads will work on a 351, not as efficient as say an AFR 185/205...or a TFS hi-port but they will work.

For an example, on a set of aluminum heads, a friend of mine who ports heads/intakes etc..he charges $500 for a full port job...that includes gasket matching the intake side/polish, port the exhaust side to header size/polish, bowl blending, unshrouding the valves etc.

Cast iron heads are more..
