Hey guys, possible girls, I am going to look at this car on Friday and was wondering if there are any things that are common to look out for or to ask about. I am going to be replacing my 96 cobra track car and this car fits the bill as it seems pretty ready to roll. The class I am running in is a 11.87:1 power to weight ratio class so max power is not what I looking for, but if it makes around 240hp/290ftlbs I should be in business, or at least close. And on that subject, I was trying to google the mods done and what HP range it might be at, and that is where I came up with the 240/290, hopeful I think. Any who, here is the link, any advise is appreciated. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/5761168905.html
Don't do it... Or.... Do it then immediately after paint it blue. Bright atlantic blue to be specific
I started to twitch a little when I saw the red cobra intake. The one I got and eventually polished started off looking exactly like that one three layers thick.... Who ever is doing that to cobra intakes we need to find and castrate.....
A metallic blue will be the end color. And yes that red paint on the intake is way too Honda Valve Cover Red. High temp silver would be its new color. I hope it is nice. He said it hasn't been on track since 2013, I hope it has been started and run a few times at the very least. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Okay, I checked it out, not 100% excited about the bolt in cage, but my guy says it should pass NASA race group tech. Sounds good, has a slight tic at idle, but I honestly have never heard a 5.0 idle with with 1.7 rockers at idle. I amy be picking it up on Tuesday and then transfer suspension parts over from the 96 cobra and then part that one out. The A9l is a question mark for me as I am not sure from what I read online if it is even an "Upgrade" as some people say it is a bad band-aid. But if I can maybe throw a cam at it and get around 240hp/300tq I would be happy. Anyone with suggestions on getting a 5.0 with under drive, Cobra intake manifold, A9l, shorty headers and intake to 240hp/300tq??
I made 220 rwhp with 1.7 RR, Edelbrock intake manifold, 75mm TB, stock headers, CAI, and high flow cats. I'm not sure how much is there left in stock longblock to get additional 20 rwhp. Maybe 10 rwhp between shorties and electric water pump, if that.
Thanks for that! I have to weigh the thing once I get it to know exactly what power I need to make. But I was figuring those numbers off of 3350 race weight with me in it. Need to be 12 to 1 power to weight ratio.
The only real mods were: 1.6 roller rockers E303 cam explorer intake/Edelbrock adaptor elbow cheapie cold air intake equal length headers Prochamber Mac catback moates chip + 93 octane tune short belt (no smog or ac)
See there...paperwork to prove it... wmfateam i had 1.7's in mine and there was a slight tick. You know about the comp. swap and why people do it, but there is always the standalone like white did. I dont have the paperwork anymore but if i remember correctly with the cobra mods, rockers and computer(i had the same one in mine) i was at 250 rwhp.
I thank you guys for the information and the dyno graph. Being as how stripped it is and the fact that I will more than likely remove the whole dash and make a sheet metal or plastic "dash", remove power steering and maybe power brakes, even if the power is under what I need, I would rather have less weight to help keep tires under me for longer. I just sent payment for it and will be picking it up tonight and hopefully have it on the scales this weekend.
She has just a slight hint of a lope on idle, and doesn't have an unburnt fuel smell really at all. No leaks and 80,000 miles. I'll have her on track October 1-2 for her first race. Should be going to the dyno before that to confirm her class legal status and then a roll cage check. Might add a NASCAR style door bar as well. I honestly never thought I'd own one. But when the price is right, things happen. I believe the torque might make me a pushrod lover. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
If that motor ever goes, you should consider a 351w swap for even bigger torque. You could build it to Cobra R spec and have all the power you'd ever need with only a marginal weight gain.
As for the A9L being a band-aid, you must read this to understand why: http://www.protowrxs.com/OldFuelInjection/files/A9L_vs_T4M0_showdown.pdf
