power steering help

Just got layed off last week so I took a couple days to swap in my 03 PI motor. Anyway, during the swap, I somehow bent the hard line and fitting that goes into the power steering pump from underneath and runs up the brake booster. since I had my 96 GTS sitting right next to me I carefully took that line out and swapped them over. I filled the power steering tank and took it out for a test drive...well no power steering and no brakes. I forgot to add in, that the pump would suck all the fluid out first while the motor is running. I topped it off again and just left it. I just jumped in it to move it out of the driveway and now a very strange and loud noise is coming from the pump, kind of like a loud groaning and it gets worse when I turn the steering wheel and press the brakes. I know I have no leaks just confused on what the hell is going on. HELP PLEASE I just want my DD back.

you either have a leak coming from somewhere, or their is a bent line you can't see preventing the fluid from working..

thats exacally where i'm at right now with my car.. it f uckin sucks i know,

for example, my car won't hold fluid because one of my boots isn't sealed on the rack. and mine makes the same loud animal porn like sound..

just take your time and look all for a leak or a bend.

That's what I thought too, but wouldn't that sound be present the first time I took the car out? I mean the first test drive was fine except I could tell it still needed more fluid, no noise or anything until after I topped it off and it sat for a while. I did have to slightly tweak the line to get it to work...I'm guessing the design changed over the years but I guess where the line becomes hose for a foot or so could be pinched somewhere. I did just kind of drop it in there, more or less wire tied the line instead of using that clamp because I couldn't get it back together. :nonono:

i bet its leaking out of there, just bear in mind every time you hit the brakes or turn the wheel the fluid comes out faster.. i've just gotten used to drivin it without ps or pb which is retarded but i'm going to bring it to a fix this weekend since i have some time off now..

I just went outside and checked the line, its not kinked or anything. I hear ya about the leaks but I had the car running and sat there turned the wheel a few times...it seems almost too easy. whenever I press on the brakes the noise gets louder and the brake pedal vibrates violently or pushes back at me more like a severe pulse in the pedal. I just thought if I had a leak the steering and brakes would progressively get harder and harder but that's not the case. I you still think its a leak then I'll check tomorrow if the rain holds off, but are you sure there couldn't be any other problem?

air bubbles in the line.. i had that problem too when i thought i fixed the leak. i just popped off the master cyl for a few mins and pumped the lines a few times and then drove it, you have to work the out of the lines.

yea i just did a search and saw that someone had kind of the same problem. My fluid is frothy or bubbly so that has to be air right? You said pump the lines, what do you mean by that?

well just pump the air out. you have to work the air out of the moving lines. just go drive lol. or pump the brakes.

alright man I'll try lol but you know these cars, always seems that simple and ends up being some kind of mess. Appreciate the help though. Oh I as reading down farther in the posts, did you ever get that lightning motor figured out?

nah, if you scope further down in that thread the guy ends up dropping off the side of the planet. oh well.. man it would have been sick too, for now i'm just thinkin of a few different builds for my car, hows that motor running?

it's funny actually, after we discussed that problem I went out and fires up the car and the problem was gone. I called my mechanic who owns a mustang shop (5.0logy) and he pretty much told me the same thing but also added that it's just the frothyness of the fluid causing that noise and to just run it like you said but only for a couple minutes, turn car off and repeat a couple times, add fluid if necessary but just wait for the bubbles to receed. but anyways, thanks again for the help. The motor runs great though, I definitely need a tune, plugs wires, CP's but other than that it's like driving my old GTS were hitting the gas in 2'nd gets me sideways and I love it. :thumb:
