Quick ? on trunk shocks

Are they supposed to lift the trunk lid open on their own once the lid is popped or pushed up a tad or not? My trunklid is kind of heavy to lift up, but once it's up the shocks hold the lid up fine...just curious if they are supposed be like that or if they are just weak/on their way out because they don't really assist in lifting the decklid at all, so wasn't sure if the shocks were good or not.

lol my lowly thirdgen Camaro struts lift the whole hatch right up automatically as soon as the hatch is popped

I gutted my deck lid and cut 8lbs of metal out of it..they now twist the decklid
