I currently have 245/40/17 on the front's and 255/45/17 on the rear's. (I bought the wheels with these tires) And the front's are practically brand new but the rears are shot, I want to get 255/40/17's or 275/40/17 instead of 255/45/17, cause I find the 45's have too much sidewall for my liking, how will my combination look?

Thanks,

255/40 is a little short and 275/40 is gonna look about how it looks now, slightly shorter. 245/45-17 or 275/40-17 are the correct sizes for our cars. 255/45 was OEM on 94/95 Cobras.

I see, thanks a lot, how would 255/40/17's look all the way around? Anyone have pictures? I'm on a budget so I wanted to keep the front's even though they aren't exactly the right size but if I have to, what are some affordable performance tires? As of now I'm thinking Fuzion ZRi's.

40 series sidewall unless its 275 will throw off your speedo I would not recommend this. If you want a smaller sidewall upgrade to 18s. nitto NT05s are great for the price but dont las long. I would look into Kuhmos for you but really you get what you pay for.

So it looks like 245/45/17's in the front's and 275/40/17's in the rear's are best for what I have which are 1999 Cobra's? And that will look pretty close in terms of sidewall or no?

thats what i have its as close as you can get. these wheels are 9 inch wide right?

They're 8" I'm pretty sure, I shouldn't have too much problem would I? I know the 275's will have a bit of tire bulge though.

holy jesus, anything over 245 is wayy too wide for 8's 245/45/17 all around. talk to a tire rack rep or whoever you are buying your tires from. they will set you up with what you need

OP having tires that are too short tend to look weird, like they're too small for the wheel well (cause they are) I ran 275 nitto DRs on my 8" rims for several years with good luck but the middle of the tread wore faster than the outside because they were bowing a touch, they didn't look bad on there at all though. I just checked and 255/40 is a good deal shorter than stock, I wouldn't do it but then again I'm pretty anal when it comes to tire sizes.
