My car did have 245/45/17 in the front and 285/40/17 in the back. Why do a lot of people put a higher sidewall in the front. I just ordered new front tires and got 245/40/17 in the front. Will that be a problem. :dunno:

Normally people put like a xxx/40/xx in the back because they have wider tires in the back so the percent for the sidewall height doesnt need to be as big to be the same height as say a 245/45/xx.

^ Yep. I hope you're running atleast a 9 inch wheel in the back to be using 285s.

Oh gotcha. Well hell you could run wider that a 245 in the front, infact a 245/40 on a 9 inch wheel may look a little stretched out?

They run a different profile so they can have the same diameter tire. Your new front tires are going to be pretty short, and probably stretched on a 9" rim.

And you have had no problems? I went with a smaller front tire because they are cheaper. Should I have gone 275 all around? :dunno:

+1

with a 9" front you may wanna look into a bigger tire so it doesn't look stretched as they say. but different brand tires have their own ratings such that you wont always know if it'll run short/big bulge/stretched etc... like Nitto's compared to Goodyears.
