Hey guys what's up? well i have this idea in my head that i want to make my car have a ram air system..... THIS will be home made of course and this will also be very cheap i'm cheap what can i say.... i have been thinking of putting on a stock maf sensor in the since i don't have near enough power to peg my pro-m. after i install the stock mass air i'll cut the filter mesh out of my pro-m meter since the mesh is all messed up and install it in front of the stock air meter and then get a flex pipe from home depot or something and run it into the fender and down into the passenger fog light, which i took out a while ago. and that's it. the filter mesh of course will make sure the mass air receives an accurate reading and also protect the motor from the elements. what do you guys think??? will it worth some ponies ? i know trans ams benefit from the ram air a lot and the mach ones also benefit from it by pulling very hard on the rop end ie. lots of incoming air, and cold too.

good concept.. I'd be afraid when it rains of too much moisture getting in there. It might be worth a shot..I never thought the ram air on cars ( SS, trans am, mach 1) was worht more than 5 10 ponies at the crank. Who knows. give it a go

your gains will be marginal at best...

Exactly...

Ram Air usually shows no gain until you are at HIGH speeds

~100 + MPH...

Well I think it won't be such a bad idea due to the fact that outside air has a lot more oxygen molecules because it will be denser and also this is what i'm looking for after a certain amount of miles an hour then the speed of the car will bring cold air into the engine thus providing a lot more top end power. Hell anything is better than the air from inside your engine compartment..... anyways i'll see how it works out and i'll let you know.

Just invest in a cold air kit then. Why waste your time on that?

UPR makes a great fenderwell kit (air from the fender and not the engine) and is not expensive like BBK etc.

UPR has it listed at $99.99 but you can get it cheaper from a UPR dealer.

I don't know I guess i'm stubborn like that and i'm thinking it could be a great little project and it won't cost more. I also don't know why everyone wants to do something that has always been done by someone else........ I liek to do things my own way like I ported my gt40 heads at home and my explorer intake also was ported by me in my own living room..... Anyways when worst comes to worse you could always go back and buy new stuff and expensive stuff......

We're not saying it won't work. If you think it is worth your time, by all means go for it. I did something similar years ago with some dryer duct, a floor vent "elbow" (used as a scoop mounted below the bumper), and up to the PVC Pipe cold air kit. I gained 2/10ths in the 1/4 but I chalked that up to a better track prep that day. Regardless, for less than $50, I made the setup. It all got shit canned when a curb took the scoop off and I switched to a C&L inlet pipe.

See that is more of like what i'm looking for people that have tried it on their own ways and then share their results. Rycleff did you feel a difference in top end power when you switched to the C&L set up, can you feel the car pulling harder on top end?

Nope not really. In all acutality, your "ass" dyno isn't accurate at all. You will not feel a 10hp gain in your ass...Like I said, the track doesn't lie though. I DO know that it certainly didn't hurt performance.
