Rear end dilemma

I was planning on installing a set of 3:55 gears on my stang and was about to order an install kit and a trac loc rebuild kit. This was all going to cost me around $500-$600 including install. I also recently found a clunking noise coming from the rear end and some oil on the inside of my rear passenger wheel. Today I came across some deals on a pair of complete rear ends. One is from a 95 cobra and one is from a 95 mustang gt. The cobra rear comes complete with the slightly larger brakes which I've been wanting to upgrade to, but the GT comes complete with 3:73 gears. I can get the GT for $310 and the cobra for $350. What do you guys think? Cobra, GT, or put the money into mine and run the risk of having to spend more cash fixing the oil leak

is the gt rear guaranteed not to whine?
How many miles do they have on them?
I vote for the GT rear end. It already has the gears you want, and the cobra discs are just barely bigger than the gt's so you likely not notice any difference anyway.

There's 70k on the cobra and 20k on the gt since the gears were installed, no whine at all from either. I'm going to try to talk the guy into selling me the gt rear and get me a good deal on the brakes. He wants $150 for the complete rear brake setup but I don't know if that's a good enough deal, and maybe I should keep hunting around especially if the braking difference isn't going to be that noticeable. Thoughts?

I picked up the GT rear for $250 and at the end he didn't want to sell the brakes cause he thought it would be harder to sell the rear without them. 3:73s it is

I want to paint the rear calipers red to match my front cobras on Tuesday and I'm shooting to finish the swap on Thursday. I'll let you know how I like them

Finished the swap today and in the process I messed up the new caliper paint. Everything else went pretty smooth, no more clunking and no more leaks. It's going to take me take me a couple of days to get used to the new gears, because First gear is WAY too short. Now I'm not sure if I should order the correct speedo gear or the FRP speed calibrator. Any suggestions?

you can change out the VSS gear with a 23 tooth for about 15 bucks.
That should put the speedo really close to accurate.

get the calibrator from dallas mustang. Its a little bit more simple...er than the FRPP one, and plus you can call them anytime if you have questions, they even sent me a part that I lost for free (i didnt even pay shipping and it went from dallas to maryland)...they are the nicest people. Dallasmustang.com FTMFW!!!!

You already did what I was going to say do. Doubtful you'll notice the Cobra brake difference as much as youd notice the gear swap....noone would even notice the brake difference between the two.
