Gus98GT and I pulled out his transmission out the other day and I noticed the rear main seal is leaking. So before we put the transmission back in, I wanted to replace it. Has anyone ever done one on a 4.6 before. I never put one in before so I wanted to get some input about it.

Thanks everyone!!

what would you like to know?

One thing you need to make sure for the love of GOD BE CAREFUL when you install the seal on the crank to not nick it and make sure it goes on straight !!!

Make sure you and Gus install the rear main seal straight and correct the first time or
you will have to take it all apart again if it leaks.Just take your time and do it right the
first time.I hope you guys are installing a new pilot bearing and throwout bearing too
since you are in there.Installing a new clutch?

His throw out bearing broke and broke the part in the bell housing that the fork rests on when not in use. Gonna swap bell housings and install a OEM throw out bearing and a new OEM fork. Clutch was replaced recently.

Well replacing the pilot bearing is cheap insurance and you will thank yourself later for replacing it.

i HIGHLY suggest a FRPP heavy duty TOB.
if you dont want to spend the extra $$ on FRPP at *LEAST* stick with FoMoCo.... no napa or checker junk when it comes to a TOB.

also, keep in mind FRPP also offers heavy duty clutch forks.

Edited: B/S is not needed nor tolerated in a Tech Thread, there are better sections for it.

I referred Gus to a OEM Ford site online that sell parts at a great price.

Thanks Chris!!
