Ive been hearing about 4.6s needing rebuilds from 115,000-150,000 because the main bearings going out. To be honest if this is true this scares me cause I just crossed into the 117,000 range. So my questions are, is this true? and if so why so early?

Think about the statement you just posted, now chew on this. What motor is in a crown vic?? What motor is in 99% of New York, Boston, and LA's Taxi's ????? 4.6 2v motor....now, think of the hours, AND miles on that motor. Well over 150k and average drive time.

A friend of mine has an 02 gt with 215,000 miles on it and has never seen a rebuild or had the heads off the car. He even sprayed 150 shot of nitrous through it when it was at about 180,000 and its still running strong

Never thought of it that way. thanks for the heads up and info. I just took that information at face value without thinking it all the way through.

Mine let go at 126k and all symptoms and sounds pointed to main bearings

I find blanket statements on all kinds of motors all the time lol. Ever 2.9 Ford will blow a headgasket, every 4.7; Dodge will eat a timing chain cover, etc etc.

I'd be more worried about your intake than anything

i just tore down a 140k mod motor. the main bearings were like brand new, the rod bearings however were slightly worn.

I bought my car with the odometer reading "98,xxx". The guy said the odometer had been broke for a few years, meaning the car had anywhere from 110,000 to 130,000 miles on it.

I sprayed the engine for 3 years with a 125 wet shot of nitrous and drove it everyday to school, work, and everywhere else I went.

It didn't blow up until I decided not to check the oil for 6 months and I ran it straight out of oil :tard: These 2v motors are troopers man! Don't be worried.

I pulled my NPI motor at 145,000 Miles. The car was running PERFECT before i pulled the motor. I only pulled the motor to swap a PI motor but at 145,000 miles my Stock NPI motor was strong and ran 100% perfect.

My dad's 1999 Grand Marque with the 4.6 NPI motor has 252,000 miles on the clock.... runs perfect.

intakes crack. the most you may see is a little blow by. its common because the rings have real tight clearance from the factory.

I was at Mahle the other day, and they have a NPI in their dyno cell they've been beating on for fifteen year's lol. Said it's the most stable test bed of all the next gen V8's

Keep up on maintainence and watch your oil level and you will be fine,I myself have seen more rod bearing failures then anything and they were generally bc of reving the car out while low on oil.

Make sure your putting quality oil like Amsoil, or Mobil 1. Staying with in the 5w30 range and not going below the oil line on the dipstick and you will be fine. These motors have high tolerances, and tight clearances...Keep it synthetic and at the full line and the car will run forever.
