Going to try and get a tubular k/coil over setup for my daily driven 98 gt... what do you suggest.. i was looking at a QA1.. i don't want it to move the motor up or back.. i want stock positioning, just tubular with coil overs

I've used both AJE and QA1.. the AJE was on a fox so i cant tell you about it on a SN car but was very nice on the fox.

The QA1 is the only way to go really, if your going to go coil-over for sure. It even come with bolt in spring perches if you wanted to use your stock a-arms and sping set-up. I got one on my 96 and putting one in for the 4V swap as well.

GMS is JUNK!!!!

UPR is supposed to be descent, it just weighs a bit more I have been told.

If your willing to spend the money, I really like the Racecraft, Inc. K-Member.

1994-2004 Racecraft Inc. Mustang K-Members are the industry standard when it come to fit, finish, and design. Our front hoop style K-Member provides maximum header clearence a full 40" to fit "Big Exhaust". Every K-Member is constructed out of 4130 chrome moly tubing and is expertly tig welded in a fixture to eliminate weld distortion. Racecraft Inc. K-members are found on all types of Mustangs, from full blown 7 second drag cars, 12 second bracket cars, to daily drivers, and with Road Race option even the hard pushing coner carvers utilize the high quality Racecraft Inc. K-Members

If you like the UPR setup, I have a friend that is a UPR distributor and can give you a deal. The UPR piece is a good deal for what it cost.

Let me know,

-Rob

I have the QA1 now, and it's pretty good.
MM is better, I'm suprised no one has mentioned it.
one major benefit, besides it being an engineered MM piece, is thaty offset the pivot, so you still have decent travel when you lower your car. I'm riding a bit on the harsh side when I drop more than 2.5" since the pivot is still in the same position as stock.

MM was mentioned in the second reply.. :hammer:

I have a QA1 and i like it, my roomate has a D&D and it is also really nice. I believe my QA1 might be a tad bit lighter.

MM is a very nice piece, but I wouldn't spend the money to put it on a daily driver as it is a bit overkill.

I've daily driven two D&D tube K-members with no problems at all. I've installed at least a dozen tube k-members as well, and the D&D units consistently fit well.

My road racer has a Griggs unit, but again, big $$$ for not much benefit on the street.

Paul,
What do you think of the pivot offset info on the MM, that I mentioned?

I think it's a great change to the geometry. Mustang front ends suffer from pretty serious camber gain during LCA travel, and the offset pivots help to make the camber curves more "linear" (if that makes sense) which is great for racecars. There is so much wrong with the front suspension (well, the whole suspension) on Mustangs that every little bit helps.

At the end of the day though - you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. :)

If I am trusting the front half of my car, the engine and transmission, suspension and brakes to a K member, there is nothing in mind that is overkill. One cannot be built that is overly safe.

I think on a DD i would only go with a MM because of its strenth and durability...the others are mainly for 1/4 mile and designed for header clearance and weight loss...the MM is beefier and may stand up better in a collision.

Thanks for all the input guys :) i'll be considering all possibilitys.. as I don't want to mess with the headers with a stock K member ever again.. and i'm considering dropping the money on a turbo kit for my car instead of a supercharger, though i'll have to loose my Longtubes :-\ We'll see how it goes though. Thanks

Like I said, I've daily driven those lightweight K-members for years with no problems.

i have QA1 on my car and i love it. while my motor was out i had my stock k member taken out, and the QA1 put in its place
and instead of having my old shorty headers put in, i had BBK longtubes installed. some guys i was talking to said those headers
rub up against the stock k member, but on the QA1 i have about 1-1/2 inches of clearance. plus QA1 says i lost 35 lbs just
by replacing the K member alone. i need to order tubular a arms for it though. maybe santa will help me out... hehe

What kind of driving were you doing? Freeways, surface streets and/or twisties? Were you pushing it hard through turns? etc...

All of that. Like I said, it was a daily driver so it saw pretty much all road conditions except road racing.
