My speedometer stutters stalls and jumps. It seems like a gear tooth would be missing somewhere. Is this fix for the odometer only or is there a posibility there is a broken gear in there that affects the spedometer too? My odometer seems fine.

My car is a 97 3.8

what are the symptoms that the missing teeth produce?

I've done this swap before successfully. I did it on my Gt correctly and for some reason once it reaches some random number it stops going up. It was seated properly, and lubed I dunno whats up with it.

It would be worse to get your car labeled with odometer discrepancies. There are a lot of instances where odometer readings are recorded. Sales, registration, accidents, towings thefts, etc.

It's not a bad job at all! With basic hand tools and a little patience, you can get it done! :)
I recently did this on my 95GT. Also did the white face/el glo overlay!

Use a household fork and slide under the needle and pop it right off then set it where you want.
For the tach you'll have to use a scan tool that can read rpm's.. for the speedo, a gps will get you close.

Is it possible to roll the odometer back to zero? I know that sounds crazy but it's been stuck at 173899 since 2006 and I want it to count from 000000.0 with the new motor.

I just did this replacement. The OEM drive gear turned to literal mush when I tried to pull it out, that was a nice clean up. Thanks for the guide!
