It was actually quite easy. I had to replace the cable from the handle to the main cables to the rear. It is only about 8-10 inches long, and cost $51.00 from Ford. I was told it was not available from aftermarket.
Tools needed:
Phillips screw driver
8mm socket
1/4 inch extensions equaling about 6-8 inches
1/4 inc drive ratchet
12mm 12pt socket 1/2 inch drive would be best
3-5 inch 1/2 inch drive extension
1/2 inch drive breaker bar or ratchet breaker bar preferred
12mm wrench(optional)
Jack and 2 jack stands
Remove the compartment from the center console (2 phillips head screws under rubber bumpers) and remove compartment.
Remove shifter ball.
Carefully remove shifter bezel/boot it is only held in with clips. You should be able to remove it without any tools, I did.
Remove the 2 8mm screws at the front behind the shiter bezel.
Remove the 2 8mm bolts under the console compartment and remove console.
Remove broken peice of brake cable from the locking wheel on the parking brake handle.
Jack up the car and install jack stands under axle.
Remove 4 drive shaft retaining bolts (12mm 12pt)
Remove drive shaft.
Remove broken cable and holder from rear brake cables.
Remove boot from floor.
Install new cable through hole in floor and seat boot.
Go back inside car and attach cable end to locking wheel.
Connect cable bracket to rear cables, and test cable operation.
Reinstall drive shaft, and center console in opposite way of disassembly.
Go drive your car!
