I'm new to mustangs and pretty ignorant when it comes to engine work. However, I have a strong desire to learn. I realize that trial and error is often the best way to learn... but I'm wondering if you guys are familiar with any books or websites that might help me get a really good knowledge foundation? In other words, when I read here on the forum about all of the mods I would like to really understand why each mod improves the performance of the engine. Thanks!

The How to build 4.6 Book from Sean Hyland is good for anyone wanting to learn the basics on performance and difference between the blocks/heads/intakes etc that are available.

What engine do you have?

Yes, that site is great along with this one! but I am really looking for something that would lay out the big picture of form and function for me. I'm one of those dorks that likes to ask "why" so I'm searching for a good resource that would help me put the big picture together of how this whole system works. I looked up the Sean Hyland book on Amazon and that seems to be exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah that Sean Hyland book will help you out a lot. Its not the bible and some info is a little old but it will give you a solid base knowledge of everything 4.6 performance related and help you choose parts etc for your future plans. I have had mine for many years and still dig it out to look things up in it.

Try ebay for used copies.
