Go to a store and buy an avocado. Peel off some of the skin and smear some of the avocado on your headlight. Take the inside of the skin that you peeled off and scrub your headlight with it. Then wash the avocado off of your car and be amazed at the results. I did this to my girlfriends rx8 lastnight and they went from yellow to 95% clear. This method won't get your headlights show car worthy, but for a DD you will be happy and for less than a dollar your headlights will look 100 times better. I didn't take any pictures before i did it because I didn't think it would work.

this is not her car but her headlights where this bad.

this is her car after the avocado.

I'm all for cheap DIYs but real headlight restorer is like 5 bucks and every youtube video comparing stuff like urine, avocados, toothpaste, etc. the real polish turns out the best.

I tried the turtle wax headlight restoration kit and it didn't help at all, maybe I just got a bad batch but for $10 it should have did something. I'm my experience the avocado did the best.

All that kit is is different sand papers and some water.
I wouldn't say it doesnt work at all, but it's not as great as it's advertised to be.

Now try it again with some tooth paste and see what happens. Its a polish and will take a little more of that haze out imo. Just take a small blob on a towel, smear it around and they start rubbing it with a little force and you will be surprised.

Sorry guys. I was only trying to help people who didn't have a lot of money to spend improve the looks of their headlights. I said it won't make your car show worthy. What do you expect for $1?

interesting idea. Wouldn't put avocado on my car, rather eat it.

Thanks for sharing.

I think we're all down for cheap solutions once in a while but honestly for the time it takes and the result you get I'd feel like i wasted my time. Like Steve-Oh said buy a multipack of wet/dry sandpaper and a little bottle of lens polish (or even paint polish), it will come out tons better.

Well I use an orbital sander with a buffing pad and then use the Mothers headlight polish and it works perfectly so no complaints here.

SOmetimes polishing them is not nearly enough. I have done tons of lights.

seen here:

I've done a lot more that I didn't take pictures of. Even fund raised for a cancer project doing headlights. Seen here:

When I first started, I would wet sand and clear, but I didn't like that method too much, so I switched to wet sanding and bringing the grit up to 1500 or 2000. Then I would polish them. Found brasso to be super awesome for them at that level. Then finish off with a few coats of wax.

Now, I wet sand as far as I need to, some lights are soooo bad you have to go all the way down with 400, I've had some be 320, but I refuse to go lower (unless i'm shaving off the tits like on snives) then just work your way up. Once I'm at about 1500 I'll hit them with the buffer, and usually use some m105 and m205 then a few coats of wax.

Lights stay looking nice if you polish them once in a while.
