Hey everyone, I have the Roush shifter arm and boot to install, and I'm looking for any help or tips installing it myself! Looks fairly easy, but we all know it never turns out that way!

Yeah, metal ring and staples, and what looks like black silicone. Positioning it correctly looks easy, but re-stapeling it looks like it could be difficult

i installed my roush boot... took apart my old shifter boot assembly and used everything off it. had to trim it a little bit for clearance on the cigarette lighter door.
even used the OEM staples because my stpales wouldnt go through it :-( lol

I was thinking I might have to reuse the staples too! I can probably just bend them straight with some needle nose pliers, and pull them out. And just poke some holes through the new boot to reuse them. Did you use any glue? It looks like black silicone in there.
I'm trying to decide whether I want to do the silver radio/shifter bezel thing before I install the boot, but I'm not sure yet. I'll probably just leave it black.

and thats what i did. straighted stapples with pliers, poked new holes, used old stapples, re-bent them with pliers.

silver would match soo many other things in your interior...... Or would it?

It would match the Cobra seat inserts, but all black with white gauges and white shifter knob to match the cars exterior would be cooler

no glue is needed, don't even really need the staples. Just sandwich the leather between the ring and your dash and it will hold nicely. I got a custom one from redline leathers last year and it make a huge difference.

Yeah it only comes in charcoal But my parking brake boot is charcoal, my seats are charcoal, so maybe it'll all tie together and look ok.
ttocs, I like the glossy black trim, how did you do that and keep it shiny? I'd be worried it would get scratched up or something!

thanks, I painted with gloss black enamel and cleared, wetsanded and polished. I have not found any scratches yet but yes surely sooner or later it will happen. Its not a bid deal to touch up a small area or worst case just hit the entire piece. I have maybe $15 in parts and a couple of hours but I like it too much to go back to flat.

It reminds me of the newer Ford Escape's that have the gloss black dash pieces, or the Harley Davidson trucks that also have the glossy interior parts. I really like it, but the average person destroys that stuff, I see them scratched up a lot. Luckily people like you or me that would take the time to do it themselves would take care of it too. I might have to get an extra bezel and try it out. Did you do the door cups too?

as well as the flat piece around the gauges, as well as the windshield defogger vent. Anything that was flat is now gloss. I put 4 coats of thick clear on it and as you said since I did it myself I am a little more carefull then the averate person. I assume you noticed the green stripe matching the outside and the shifter boot? After it was all black it just needed something else.

Yeah I noticed the stripe, its a nice personal touch! I just want to get the shifter in for now, maybe some time I'll do an extra bezel and see how I like it. I have too much to do with other things than the car, I dont think I have the time, even though I love trying new things out. I never realized how much I could do until I just tried it. The bottom of my rear bumper is next!
