 Hello guys its the annoying pi intake question person.

So, i decided to do the rtv swap because of money problems. I have a couple questions, number one being my main question.

1. American Muscle suggest i use the PI intake gasket and put RTV on EVERY port. WTF? Here the quote from there guide
Now do not forget to put the silicone in each head or you might end up with a leak. You could try it without the silicone but it might not work, so be safe and use it.

2. Weather in chicago is getting down to the single digits very soon. Is RTV curing time effected by this or not?

3.Some guys say wait 2-4 hours for the RTV to cure while some say overnight. Is the 2-4 pretty much right meaning the overnight thing is just for extra precaution. I also read about guys firing it up right after they finished.

4. How long did you PERSONALLY wait to fire her up? :eek:ccasion14:

Sorry for all the questions in this section by me :angry7:

Yes the cold will affect curing time of rtv. I would play the safe side and wait the 24 hrs, if you don`t need to use it. I think all he meant was be sure to rtv both sides not every port.

I waited a bit over 12 hours before adding any fluids and starting motor (finished at night, went back and started on it again the next day)

Yea let it sit over night, if you were using it for like a rear diff cover or something like that where you need to seal that, Its ok to add bolt on, then go and its fine. But where you have fuel and coolant you want that stuff to cure correctly.

Use the PI gasket and only put RTV on the coolant port like the pics i posted. If you put it in the other ports it can/will break down over time from the fuel. Thats why i never like the use of NPI gaskets....

Mine sat for 24hrs before i filled it and fired it up but overnight should do or atleast 12hrs and yes cold will add time to everything that needs to dry/cure. Pop a portable heater in the garage if you have one.

Only put the dabs of RTV on the coolant ports that are shown in the picture that Bob posted.
To let the RVT fully dry/cure you should wait atleast 24 hours or one day after you install your PI intake.
The cold Chicago weather will make the RVT dry/cure slower though.
My advice to you is once you have the old intake off take the PI gaskets and lay them on the heads.
You will easily be able to tell where to put the RVT in the coolant ports.
Use the PI intake gaskets not the NPI intake gaskets.

just remember, you only wanna do it once...if you get a leak cause you didn't wanna wait an extra 4 hours...then you get to do the WHOLE thing again :-D. Just do it once, correctly and all is well.
