Running hot

I have a small problem that may just be me over reacting. I haven't driven my car in about a week(down for surgery), and I drove it yesterday. On my way to my girlfriends house the car seemed to be running warmer than it usually does(usual is between "o" and "r" on NORMAL on the gauge). It was running at the front of the "m", when I got to her house I stopped and checked the coolant level, it was spot on, both my top and lower radiator hoses were hot. Is there something Im missing, or is my water pump or thermostat going out?

Maybe a thermostat. Put a 190 in it just to be safe.

is your fan working properly? ect sensor? could be your high fan not turning on.

You guys are being paranoid. The dash gauge provides only a relative temperature. Why do you think Ford provided a range which they called "NORMAL". The stock T-stat isn't fully open until 205*. Normal on the gauge will usually be between 185* - 220*. Depending on ambient temperatures the engine will generally run between 195* - 210*.

Agreed, that's barely anything you could call real change.

Well that's why I asked the question, there's the stock thermostat in there and the car has 116k miles. I didnt know if it may be going out or not.

what he said... buy a ir thermometer and take a reading at the thermostat housing neck if your worried

You can also check your thermostat by taking it out and putting it in water at 205* on the stove and see if it opens. But if you do that you might as well drop in a colder one. I vote leave it until it really starts acting up still..
