they have to pay a fine and fix the software so it sounds like they will not be able to turn those things off in the future. Makes me wonder if the older units will update and if not if they will be worth more? They say in the article they turn the cats off how does a tuner turn the cats off?

No tuner in the world can turn a catalytic converter off. Obviously the article was written by someone with no knowledge about the subject. I haven't used a tuner myself, but I do understand that you can use it to disable engine codes, such as when one deletes the cats. Could it be that is what they are talking about?

They probably mean more like the EGR is able to be deleted and I think I have heard they can turn some emission stuff on diesels?

All they have to do is make you agree to a waiver claiming it’s for an off road race vehicle. That should satisfy the government. Then it falls upon the individual if they get caught

it sounded like they were going to need to correct the software to prevent it from going on. Not sure how that would all work but it would suck.

Who's hand held has had the option to turn off emission stuff lately? All the stuff I've had didn't have that option. I had to use the PRP software to do it. But all my emission stuff is still on.

I just took the bulb out of my cluster so I could care less lol. As long as the tuner can still tune my car I really dont care.

I just updated my tuner for first time in 3 months and i had all kinds of new options. i could modify things i never had access of. also it asked if i wanted to modify these when i put a new tune in normally after my tune was installed bam it was done, now after install it gives me a bout 9 different things to change. like rear gears, top speed, top rpm, and trac control. these i normally had to call and request tune change.

Well TECHNICALITY, and I'm playing devil's advocate on this, it is being argued that cheating emissions is harming people due to air quality issues that come from it so I can see where the problems are coming from. It's easier to go after a large corporation that's creating the ability to get around vehicle standards set forth by Poppa Washington that to hit every person taking advantage of them.

That being said, I'm going to keep rocking my O/R H-piped car and hope I never live anywhere that does emissions testing and keep skirting the system.
