ive been contemplating this ever since i bought the car. dont get me wrong i love my mustang but since it has almost 150,000 miles on it and the only thing ive really had to change was the clutch, i know it can only go downhill from here. for example my radiator has had a small leak since i bought the car a year ago and ive never done anything to fix it because i didnt feel like spending the money on such a small problem. im wondering for future reference if i should sell the car and when i make some more money in a couple years buy a cobra that ive always wanted...or should i just get a new engine. If i did get a new engine what do u guys think i should go with and how much is it gonna cost...

any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks guys

Well, with the GT you can put any kind of high horspower 306, 331, or 347 in it. Plus the GT mustang really isn't as special a model as a cobra... even though it's basically the same car.

You can make your GT into your dream car. Just buy the body panels/ engine that you want. And there you have it... a cool looking mustang that you've always wanted, and a mustang that can run laps around a GT500 no problem all day... if you build it that way that is.

Plus it'd be cheaper than buying a cobra, and then doing the exact same thing to your cobra, that you would've done to your GT in the first place. Just make your GT the car that YOU WANT. Well, that's my opinion anyways.

It doesn't seem to be giving you any problems other then a radiator that isn't much money to replace so why think the worst of it?
If you get something newer you will have just as good a chance for things to break and most newer cars are more expensive to repair and have more computers etc that could fail.

These cars are rather reliable and easy to fix so unless you just want something new just keep it.

well said guys...i agree to a certain extent but i will still always want either a 96-98 cobra or a 99-04 cobra.

and if i do keep it i want to do so much **** to it that i feel like id be spending more money than if i would jus get a good deal on a cobra...i would deffinitly want a cobra front bumper, an s281 spoiler, 3" cowl hood, paint mirrors, lower it, tint it out, full bolt ons or new engine...etc. its just a never ending list and i fel that the list would be much shorter on a cobra that already has most of the upgrades i want stock

You need to look at when your buying or getting a new car why your getting rid of your old one. High miles? unreliable? unsafe? ect. Also you need to look at what your getting, Do you know the car? do you know the history of it? is it modded? has it seen track use? You verywell may get rid of your car buy a cobra that just one of thoes cars that needs ALOT of attention. So you really have no reason to get rid of a reliable car that isnt broken or costing you any extended amount of money. I would keep your car, and be happy with it. If you want a cobra save your money and buy one and then sell your gt after. I personally dont understand why people get rid of cars that are mechanically sound.

I got rid of my car. It had a lot of miles, was driven hard, and wasn't reliable or safe for that matter. And then I bought it back. Don't get rid of it. They are fairly cheap to work on and make faster and are a whole lot of fun.

If it reliable now why get rid of it. 150,000 mi is nothing as long as it's driven and not beaten.
Leave it as is, save your money then get your cobra.
Push rod motors are cheap to mod compared to a twin cam cobra motor.

Mine has 149,xxx and if push came to shove a new motor would go in before selling it. I picked mine up all stock down to the silencer. It would be hard to find a mustang now that isn't beat to death with a bunch of hidden problems. Updating the interior and suspension will help you to keep the car, at least it did for me. Driving a 14yr old car and it feels like a 14yr old car make you think of getting rid of it for a newer feel. Replace all the suspension bushings (energy suspension or Prothane) will make it feel new again.
