I agree. I picked up my last set of four (255/35/18 and 285/35/18) for $400. The price between 17" and 18" isn't that much of a gap.

Have you seen the 2004 style wheel? I know I keep going with this, I just hate to see a rare car stripped of parts that will be hard to come by later.

Where did you find a set for that cheap? Everywhere I look the cheapest set will cost me more than 680.

Craigslist. I have bought the last few sets for the Mustang on there, and two sets for the Explorer. One thing to look at is Mercedes/BMW dealers. When they do the whole trade in and refurbish thing, they will usually put new tires on - which means they have a surplus of the 255/35 and 285/35 for 18" wheels laying around with just a few thousand miles on them. You can get them for $100 per tire or less sometimes.
