In the least words, if possible. I am watching DIY and they are restoring a 65 Fastback Mustang. I am behind watching it, but on the last they put them on it. I was hoping someone might tell me why one would put them on. I was looking on American Muscle and I found a set by Maximum Motorsports for $139. Is something I will want on my conv? Thanks!!

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

They tie the front and rear subframes together. Helps to keep the body from twisting.

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

Mustangs are not full-frame cars - they're unibody. Subframe connectors are simply hunks of steel designed to be welding onto the front and rear "subframes" in the car, thereby attaching them and increasing the overall stiffness and rigidity of the body. This helps make the chassis more predictable, less prone to flex, and from twisting up like a pretzel in high-torque applications. :)

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

I want to put a set on. Will it matter that I drive a conv? I think my side exhaust would have got in the way, too. It's long gone now though! I see I can get them in bare steel or painted black for $30 more. Will these even be ever seen unless you try to see them? I do not see anything about for conv's either. Maximum Motorsports is really good right? This buy might take me a while, but @ least they are now on my radar. Thanks so much for helping me, too!!

Will I want full length, too? If I get bare metal, will I need to paint them so they will not rust?

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

My car is 13 years old. Will that matter that I'm adding them so late? I mean, will it all line up right? I have no clue about any of this stuff! I'm thinking; maybe the car has settled in, kind of crooked. Is this a dumb question to y'all? It sure sounds dumb to my ears!

Unless you're on the ground looking for them, you aren't going to see them.
Since your car is a convertible, you're going to want them even more since you late the rigidity of a roof; and make sure they're full lenth.
At this point I'd try and find someone who knows what they are doing and have them weld them on.

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

convertables need them even more then coupes becasue you have no roof

full lengths are better becasue they weld much farther down the frame rail, giving you more strength. Make sure you buy yours specifically for a vert, i think they are different

I think what I was thinking about is a conv weighs more, right? I thought because of that, some extra stuff might be in the way.

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

I installed mine about 10 years ago and it made a huge difference. It should be on the
top of the list for any Mustang, especially a 'vert. My only regret is not geting
the MM full length ones, I just got the non painted std. length.

also make sure u get the sfc's that need to be welded to the frame, not the bolt on sfc's

what do subframes actually help though?

Will they actually increase handling or traction?

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

yes

say you go into a hard corner at a decent speed. your car will flex, making the suspension feel unpredictable

in drag racing if your car flexes at its launch it will add time to your et

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

basically if your chassis is flexing under launch or in a corner the suspension can not do it's job. With tying the subframes together it lets the suspension do what it was designed to do.

Yes, you should paint them after they are welded on to keep them for rusting and to keep the welds from rusting. If you are as anal as I am about my car looking good, whether you see them or not, they should br painted to make them look nice

Re: Can someone explain subrfame connectors for me?

These are the ones I am looking @. It shows a pic of them installed. I think I see some welds on the ends. Are the bolts supplied just for extra maybe?

I just do not know if these are weld ins, or bolt ons. Thanks!!
